are expensive dress shirts worth it?

some nice looking dress shirts cost 30 bucks.

others cost 100.

so, obviously the 100 one isnt worth 100, but my question is do u think its actually worth like maybe 60, or do u think its really no better than the 30 one?

No.

Just buy a decent fitted shirt or "modern fit" one with the proper sizes and call it a day.

It depends on who you're trying to impress really. People who wear $100 dress shirts can tell when yours only cost $30. But people who don't wear dress shirts at all will be very impressed with a dapper JFK in a $30 dress shirt.

I usually spend about $60 for mine too. Anything with a decent logo will get you a general pass everywhere you go. I have a couple Nauticas and a few Calvin Kleins.

But this reminds me... I always get annoyed by people who ask me why I'm so dressed up even if I'm just wearing a button down shirt and some slacks. To my mind, that is not dressed up. Those are normal, comfortable, casual clothes. But some people make it seem like I must be off to a job interview everytime I dress like that.

There's an old saying "you get what you pay for". I'm a firm believer in that. I have to wear dress shirts and ties for work so I try to buy shirts on the nicer side. I've bought a couple that were like $20 bucks but they had quality issues. I've found jcpennys is the best place near me to buy nice dress shirts for a good price. Plus for the none cordinated they even display ties that match the shirt.

They do but fuck merc and j, you two poofteers should just order fakes online if they're not so much widespread and available in the US, here they are, you just go to a weekend flee market and get all the big expensive brands with fake logos for a tenth of a price of the original.
Same fucking shit, no difference for people who only wear those as a status symbol.

If you want quality fabrics that lasts, then you will have to pay more and not worry about logos.

I don't wear dress clothing often, so I have a moderately expensive suit and a few shirts that I don't know how much they cost because I didn't buy them.

30 dollar dress shirt would be awesome

I have to pay 35 bucks for my tshirts

a shitty dress shirt is 75 or more

cause I have to shop at Big and Tall stores still

and they know they're the only game in town for folk like me so we have to pay what they charge

fat tax fucking sucks.

Seriously, if I wanted to I could just throw the next gay guy I come across right up against a wall and give him an anal assault and he wouldn't complain one bit.

Here's a real first world problem:

Buy the $30 shirt and get it tailored for another $20 [max].

Then your $30 shirt will fit like a $100 one.

Thanks komp.

All clothes should be tailored if you're trying to look good. We all have different body types and clothes off the rack are generically constructed to fit the broad spectrum. My formal attire is all tailored and it's obvious to me when someone else is wearing a rack-suit.

Are they worth it? Depends. If you're someone who needs to wear nice button down shirts to work every day, pay the money for a nice shirt, start hitting up tailors. Find one you like, and stick with him/her. It'll be a relationship you'll have until you move too far away for it to be reasonable to trek there anymore.
Or if you're little by little trying to create an adult wardrobe you'll have for years - buy the nice quality.
If you're buying shirts in colors or prints etc. you may not necessarily wear in 2 years, go $30.

You get what you pay for. If you want your shirt to last through the wash time and time again, and still look sharp, you'll spend the extra bucks.
