European Football has ruined American Football for me
I can't even enjoy this handegg crap anymore. To many breaks in plays, quarters, half times.. Wat da fuck.
Shit bores the hell out of me now.

With so little offence in your football (soccer), does the crowd boo when a great defensive play is made on what otherwise would be a goal?
I sure would. |

Good defending can get a crowd going almost as much as good attacking play. The SAFC stadium of light goes up when one of our players makes a crunching tackle that cuts out an attack.
Maybe give Rugby a try (pun intended) Mayne, its not as stop/start as American football, The Rugby world cup is just getting to the good stages at the minute.

but don't you guys get sick of low scoring ties?
I also don't like that it uses a shootout to decide important games. if its tied, it should be unlimited sudden death until someone scores. |

I'm pretty sure you don't even like sports so any trolling you do counts as a non post.

Penalty shootouts are class unless its your team thats involved in them but as Sunderland never get anywhere in the cups it doesnt really affect me.
They're a shite but exciting way to end a big match, if that makes sense.

Why compare two completely different sports like this instead of just appreciating them both for what they are? The word 'football', the games' use of a ball, on a field, consisting of teams, are where any similarities end.

Probably only when the top 3 or 4 teams play each other. I've seen teams lose by laughably huge margins in an apparently top level tournament. |

You know I wish the Armed Forces Network broadcasted some of the world cup rugby matches. I would have loved to watch.

soccer is getting really big in oregon. we have a team, the timbers, they get hella air time on local TV and a shit load of news coverage to boot. supposedly in portland the fans are very rowdy and the games get heated.
and there's this bartender at the bar I go to who fucking loves soccer. he's always trying to put it on the TV and get everyone into it but he's kidding himself if he thinks people care about it as much as he does. what i really don't like about the sport is that the field is so fucking huge and it makes the players look like ants on the TV. and what is the use of commentary in that sport? "he kicks the ball" "now he's kicking the ball" "out of bounds" "they kick the ball in" "oh shit now the other team is kicking the ball. oh shit!" i just don't get it. |

To explain what is going on and offer insights and stats about the game? The same as in any other sport.

Objectively speaking, comparing sports is like comparing music, as far as what you personally are looking to get out of it.

i don't much care for football either because of all the referee involvement. there are sooo many flags on the play now days and the refs want to review everything. it wasn't like that before and now that's what it's all about! just play the game for fucks sake and let a bad call be some motivation for your ass to win... |
