I'm Sick of Empowered Fat People
I've been sitting on this rant for quite some time now, and I figured Yahooka would be a good outlet for it. Maybe you'll agree with me, maybe not. But this is a place where I feel I can speak my mind so here it goes:
WTF is up with fat people acting like it's their right to be complete gluttons? I'm a big believer in the philosophy that people should be able to live however they want as long as they're not hurting anyone else. I'm also not the type of person who believes you should restrict your decisions so much that you're not enjoying life. And if you're chubby but not morbidly obese, this philosophy applies to you. I don't give a shit about your physical appearance. However, if you think it's your right to be so massive that you require government assistance to live your life, that shit affects me because I have to pay for it! I'm not the health police, and I honestly do not care what you do to your body as long as others are not forced to pay for your shitty decisions and lack of self control. But my country is rapidly gaining a reputation for being one of the fattest nations in the world, and we are handing out disability checks left and right as a reward to people who have intentionally fed themselves to the point of being sick from it. I don't think it's fair for tax dollars to enable people to wallow in their fatness and camp out in their homes, unable to work, getting fatter all the while on someone else's dollar. Our society has become so obsessed with political correctness that we're too scared to mention that BEING OVERWEIGHT IS NOT FUCKING HEALTHY. I'm not saying everyone should fit a certain body type, and I do think girls with curves are more appealing than girls who starve themselves in an attempt to look like supermodels or celebrities. But we judge the shit out of smokers and druggies, yet you better not dare point out that diabetes and heart disease are not beautiful or else you'll have a stampede of empowered fat women jumping down your throat. I'm fucking sick of it. Being a greedy, gluttonous, asshole while others starve is not beautiful at all. There, I said it.

Your rant reminds me of the rants by the right wing about "abortion on demand", which insinuate that women who get abortions are conscienceless sluts who see abortion as easy birth control. It lacks an attempt to understand the person criticized. People don't become morbidly obese because they weigh the options (no pun intended) and decide it's the easiest way to support themselves. They get that way because of deep personal pain and suffering. Now, while I do agree that no one should be forced to pay support for another without good cause (like child support), I do know that compassion costs us nothing.

Yup.
I dont think political correctness is exactly the term for it, but I agree and I get what you mean. I think maybe more like, your supposed to be nice, or not make people feel bad about how they look. I donno, maybe it is a political correctness. You can tell a nation has a body image problem when the amount of obese people has skyrocketed and the 'good' looking celebrities and magazine covers are unhealthily thin. And AL, consider in Canada, where we have universal healthcare. Symbolically this is like acknowledging that we are all of one body (which I think is an evolved political acknowledgement), but what that means is that if someone is unhealthy from their choices, such as eating mcdonalds fries everyday, it burgers, er, burdens us all. So the political philosophy quest that we're left with is; where is the just line between personal freedom (important and just to a degree), and the government mandating whether or not private food production/services can serve whatever they want or prepare their food how they/customers want. And its not just personal freedom either, its about social influences/availability/psychology and all the other social facts a sociologist could explain and justify for us. I.e. Do we (the people in this jurisdiction) like fast food because we enjoy the taste, or do we enjoy the taste because its whats there, and advertised. One more: Part of the obesity problem is not personal choices, but whats available, whats affordable (makes it a very political issue if cheap food is the unhealthiest) and what sort of nutritional education exists. I've heard stories about how in some states in the US the understanding of nutrition is just not there. Such as, french fries (potatos) counting as the vegetable in the school cafeteria. |

*armchair parent without kids*
When I have kids, their gonna go running and do push ups with me every day! Can't believe childhood obesity. Its akin to child abuse. I worry that since I was young, entertainment tech has become even more prevalent that my children might not want to spend the 9 hours biking through the woods that I would as a 10 year old. Blowing up fireworks and looking at someone's uncle's playboy. |

AL, I know you mean, umm well but I'm gonna let my mother in law who is near 350 pounds and close to six feet and has been big all her life, who by the way eats better and healthier than I do because of her diabetes (type1, born with...), read what you have to say and if you're lucky she won't hunt your skinny ass down and thread you through a tree trunk.
Actually she probably wouldn't but I bet she would do her level best to teach you (she's a special education teacher with a masters that she received after she raised four kids and buried a husband who died slowly of cancer) that sometimes it isn't what you can see that makes a person who they are. Pleasant day my dear.

The problem with spiritually ranting about fat people is that the Budha was a fat bastard.
You can only be enlightened when you are obese, so all of these fatties are working on their deep spiritual side. I don't find fat attractive, but fat people tend to be happier and a lot less nuerotic than skinny people. ( I am skinny btw). |

same with ciggarettes, nothing to do with personal pain, just bad decicions. the point is, unhealthy food tastes better, its easier to aquire or make and its less expensive. thats why people get fat rev.

Look at the children. Kids are so fucking fat now. And when that's the reality, well, it has nothing to do with being a glutton. It's their genes, and they're spreading!! Somehow fat people actually do get laid. There are lots of guys out there who are fucking fat women and basically this is the future of our evolution.
There is a fat person in every family. Soon there will be two in every family. Then three, four, five... and pretty soon, starting in America, fat will be the new skinny and morbidly obese will be the new fat. And btw, there are so many people out there who lull themselves into this idea that they're not THAT fat just because they're not obese. They think "love handles" is not fat. It's fat! |

I think this is one of those things where for the first minute after I read this I think "Fuck yeah!" but then it occurs to me that this line of thinking could be applied to most anything. Addicts, a fistful of mental disorders, etc. So the question I then pose to myself is would I feel the same way if it was a heroin addict? The answer is most likely no.
There are a shit ton of people in this country that are sick by their own hand. I don't really know what I'm getting at except that I guess I don't agree. Universal laws, or somesuch.

You want to hear what my mother in law deals with on a daily basis? You ever walk through a grocery store and have people look through your cart and judge you? My mother in law is handicapped and it is because of her weight but like I said, she isn't a 'fat pig' but I've seen (and on occasion heard) people give her grief for parking in the handicapped space and using her scooter to get around. "Maybe if she walked a bit, she wouldn't need that thing." was my last straw one day when I heard some skinny little welfare mom toting four kids under 5 around in a huge stroller say that to her pretty overweight friend. "Maybe if you kept your fucking legs shut you wouldn't need that." I said pointing to her stroller. Quote:

Second, my mother in law belongs to a group of people who are quite large for whatever reason and they support and help each other with their problems, whether it's weight or the all too common misconception that fat people are that way by choice. I just want to tell you to look a bit deeper before you spout, sometimes what you rail against might not be what you should. For instance, you want to help with the obesity in this country, first step is STOP SUBSIDIZING CORN FARMERS! Now we can work to reduce the sugar tax so our 'unhealthy foods' can have a half a shot at becoming healthy since cane and beet sugar is way better for you than HFCS but the HFCS isn't there because we like the taste... Go figure. By the way, I'm really not trying to get you to change your opinion, just to look a little harder before forming one?

You fucktards! it's not the food, it's their genetics. They are born chubby and they grow fat. I eat big macs and KFC and Taco Bell day in and day out and I drink soda by the gallon and I'll probably never be fat (but I'll get zits from that junk). How many of these fat people walking around do you think were ever skinny? Very few. Most people don't eat themselves fat. THEY'RE JUST FAT. I can sympathize with that much. Humanity just needs to look at these fat babies being born and tell ourselves that we're just not going to allow ourselves to keep birthing these innocent people into a life of poor physical structure.
