But yeah, maybe I shouldn't assume, I know I'm not the only person that has these problems, but at 31 I really should have at least made some progress, am starting to feel too old for this bullshit! Meh, I hate whining about it, it makes me feel like I am fishing for sympathy or something, which really is the last thing I want. |

Socializing is natural, but the environment in which we do it isn't, and that can be a problem. I mean, humans without civilization live in small, close-knit communities where they have to interact all the time. Today, a person's life is compartmentalized, and much more self-oriented (my job, my house, my life), so s/he can easily withdraw from interaction with others. There are no more of the "natural" forces at work that kept people social, so you have to make an effort now.

I wish I was better at staying in touch with my family and friends.
I wish I could always live up to my ideals.

I'm also quite bad at socialising B. I don't think being shy is a personality disorder though. I find I'm better at making conversation when I'm not all burntout and shit, so I stopped the wake and bake before class.
I wish I wasn't so terribly scared of public speaking. |

I wished I wasn't so negative and stressed all the time, mostly because of my job......

Cheers man. I do actually have Avoidant Personality Disorder, or Alien Vs Predator disorder as I prefer to call it (AvPD) , it is more a defense mechanism that makes me severely distrusting of new people and situations than shyness, as I am not really that shy when I feel comfortable. It just takes a massive effort to become comfortable with people, and most people, understandable so, have not got the patience to get to know me properly. Public speaking is not something I am so bad at, similar to talking freely on the net, just make it so it is impersonal in your head, focus on the points you have to cover, and keeping your voice loud and clear, rather than the people watching you. Not easy at first, but it is something you get used to. I remember the first time I played out at a club, I was absolutely terrified as I was playing in front of a crowd of people I mostly knew, couldn't stop looking up and noticing faces etc and freaking out, went to bits... very embarrassing! Since I learned to just focus on the records, try and get lost in the music, and blur my eyes when I look up, so that I only see a general picture of what's happening instead of actually making eye contact with whoever is right in front of me, it is much easier! |

its all pretty much been said but here goes:
-i almost always take the easy way out. school, work, relationships, pretty much everything. my laziness can be pretty extreme at times and it can also have some pretty negative effects on stuff like hygiene. -i hate small talk and am generally terrible at it, but i suppose i'm improving. -i am terrible at talking to hot girls. if some random hot girl talks to me for some ungodly reason i start sweating and jumbling words and shit. its bad. i watch my friends approach girls at the bar with ease and confidence and it just baffles me how they do it. or maybe it baffles me why the fuck i can't do it. -i smoke way more weed than i should and when i do cut back or quit it never lasts more than a week or so. -i'm pretty addicted to porn -like CW, i'm going bald at an alarming rate -i am constantly comparing myself to my peers in usually very negative ways. for example, i'll justify my own laziness because a friend is even lazier. -sometimes i just can't drop an argument, and it really annoys people it all comes back to a cripplingly-low self-esteem and complete lack of discipline. i think deep down i don't believe i'm worth the effort to improve myself. i have been considering seeking professional help for years but obviously haven't gotten around to doing it. |

What I don't like about my attitude is my being insensitive... It might be because I am a loner type and don't want to go out often. So when in school or work, I would do things my own way and not tending of other people's feelings. I really hate that part of myself...

I hate that
-I'm easily side tracked -I tend to come off as a dick if you didn't know better -I sometimes define my self-worth by monetary value -I can't make small talk -I feel awkward around strangers -I don't act my age (I act like a kid sometimes) thats all for now

I get the feeling that since so many people don't like to small talk, that perhaps it's not something we should want to do in the first place.
