New bank account and I want to use it RIGHT

Nothing special really, I just opened up an account at Bank of America. I've had lots of accounts in the past and I did have one at BoA previously but I closed it because I wasn't using it.

My point is...

Now that I have a fresh new account I want to use the bank properly for a change. I want to use the bank like an attentive adult and stay on top of my finances.

Historically I never know my exact checking account balance. Also, I'm not a person of routine so my credit card bill gets paid whenever I drag myself to the bank. And speaking of checking account and credit cards: I want to use them both wisely for appropriate purposes as opposed to just using whichever card I grab out of my wallet first.

I want a savings plan. I want to understand intereste rates and fees. I want predictability. I don't want any slip ups.

Any 'hookan's who know how to use the bank can please chime in and help a young brotha.

Aw dude why Bank of America? Their business motto is "gyp the shit out of people". You should close it ASAP and join a local credit union.

I've had Chase for the last 9 months or so and I just don't like the way they handle my money. Their service is good and their hours and branch locations are excellent and plentiful. But the bastards hold my deposits for 24 hours before making the funds availible. That's just not cool.

Pffft.... a F'in credit union? Why should I trust those hippies? They probably have $400 in their safe and make people share account numbers.

Wells Fargo started charging me $12/month out of the blue. When I noticed, I called and asked. They said it was the standard fee for checking accounts with interest.

I had the free checking account, not the one with interest...

^Got damn $12 per MONTH for checking? I wouldn't take that. Well, actually Chase was charging me $10/month now that I think about it. Bank of America charged me a one time fee of $25 which is reasonable, IMO.

But all these banks now are willing to wave the checking fee if you do direct deposite. But I know direct deposite is a scam. They tell you it's all for your convinience but I know that they could give a fuck about me. What they are REALLY after is 100% of your money on their books ASAP because they're afraid you might not deposite it with them.

I still take my checks in and cash them myself.

Hmmm, let's see...

Credit union member for over fifteen years and so far I have shelled out $15 for fees.

$15

That's less than a dollar a year.

Do what you want but if you're looking for value for your money BofA does not have it.

lol BoA...

I second the Credit Union, just joining one will improve your credit score. They'll also provide you with the best rates should you ever need a loan.

Use your credit card, but pay it off every month.

Don't be afraid of direct deposit.

Get money, fuck bitches.

Now, now, I think we can all agree that while Credit Unions are run by hippies and have $400 in the safe, BoA is just plain evil. Run briskly, don't just run, to anywhere else. A bag under the mattress. Anywhere but there.

Wherever you are, go in and talk to them. Tell them your hopes, your fears, what you're trying to accomplish. They can set up automatic payments for you, email notices when your running low on funds...that kind of stuff.

I use a credit union (Solidarity Federal Credit Union ...Pay me bitches) I got to admit I've never had a problem with them. Plus free checking, savings, and a good deal on a loan for my truck. Also they got some yummy tellers

Tcfbank ftw. I got a hundred dollars free plus 25 for referring myself to open a business checking account. I just use it to deposit some pizza income and use it for gas and such.

The best answer is to kill yourself.

Really, it is the easiest way out of all of this asinine bullshit that you substitute as meaningful discussion relevant to your every day life.

Up the road, not across the street!

Fo real, I was gonna ask why he had to drag himself to a bank to pay off his credit card, even when I had 6 bank accounts and 4 credit cards plus one store card, I wouldn't go to the actual bank building, wtf, It must be over 5 years now since I stepped a foot inside a branch, only grannies still go there.

B of A is a huge bank. And they therefore make huge mistakes.

I use Citizens....little bank, little mistakes.

No credit cards ever, and buy everything I need with debit cards.

No fee checking provided I make 5 (or more) transactions per month, interest paid savings provided I make less than 6 transferes per month.
