It does seem somewhat fishy that the US can gain so much and have a reason to continue to starve out or even bomb Iran.

Although I do know there is a serious Iran/Saudi Arabia rivalry, and that Saudi Arabia has made noise about bombing Iranian nuclear reactors, so I don't really know what to think.

I have no trouble believing this.

Most folks don't realize that the country Iran hates most next to the United States and Israel, is Saudi Arabia. The two countries have been in a Cold War for decades, ever since the Iranian revolution established a theocracy in Tehran that openly challenges the legitimacy of the House of Saud.

Adding gasoline to this fire was the Wiki-leaks revelation about comments the ambassador made concerning Iran. If you remember Ambassador Jubeir told American officials to, "cut off the head of the snake." That refers to a potential attack in Iran.

If that's the case, which I admittedly know feck all about, then maybe there's more legitimacy than I thought.

But I still think the US/Saudi/Israel have much more to gain from this than Iran.

Iran aren't stupid, they surely know that killing an ambassador isn't going to ease tensions between Saudi and Iran, in fact worsen them, revenge killings aren't going to benefit Iran one bit.
Plus Iran knows it's in Americas sights, so doing this type of thing, especially on US soil, is only going to add more fuel to the fire.

It strikes me as the type of thing politicians want us to believe, rather than the type of thing that would really actually happen.

Unless it wasn't officially sanctioned by Tehran, some sort of Idealist splinter group would be the only organisation that would do this type of thing in my opinion.

well, i pay pretty close attention, (altho i dont speak persian, farsi, or arabic, so maybe it was in those news) but i sure havent seen anything like this.

i struggle to find a good metaphor for what iran is . partly because i dont know as much about it as i do some other places, but partly because it seems to be an anomoly in the world.

they basically had a people's revolution, but then the revolution got taken over by a theocratic dictatorship - so its this weird combo of people having semi free speech but also the ayatollahs being in total control and wanting to smash out dissent- its kinda like communist russia in a way - the "party" (islam) is always right, and when people disagree with the party, they need to be "reeducated"...a good iranian in the eyes of the regime is like the guy from 1984 after he was done with his brainwashing- they love big brother (khomeini) because they have always loved him because....

so how to get them to cast of their chains? well...if they dont even want to have the chains cast off- and the people honestly think they are at war with the west (eurasia) all the time, then they think anything that makes them think better of the other side is just a psy op and brainwashing from the enemy...

so i guess id like to study some more about how russians got out of that brainwashing shit in the 70s and 80s....maybe they should pipe some beatles music into iran .... seriously i seem to remember having a thread where i was comparing the ussr to iran a couple years ago and wondering these same questions.

.... a part of me wants to and does agree with u snowmayne, but even if the people are good and do want good relations with america... then it basically shows that the people have absoluately no control and no say over what goes on there... .so if thats the case, its not really that much better than if they actually did hate us. at least in terms of giving us a way to move the ball forward.

while I appreciate the response you gave, you aren't addressing a lot within my post.

First lets look for solid proof the US has offered. Well, there is none. In fact, they've come out to say they have very little, yet now entire Western nations are not only out right accusing Iran as a nation of attempting this assassination on US soil, but the Western nations are calling for action ranging from restrictions to military action. Again, all of this without offering any actual evidence and saying it is rather sparse.

Second major point is the direction Iran has been trying to head for the past few years and how this goes against everything they have been trying to accomplish. This wouldn't make any sense, they would stand to gain nothing and loose everything. Iran is a country that would like to remain standing.

The next point is the Qud Forces. One of Irans top military 'branches'. I admit, I don't know much, but what I know is they are Irans elite. You honestly think and elite military force would goof this bad, phuck the American with dual citizenship had priors. You think they'd actually use some goofball, and bring in the Mexican cartel? It's like a bad movie. That would be like our Navy Seals teaming up with a random criminal in say Venezuela to take out Hugo Chavez.
