Chuch would be better without all the singing and jokes

Don't you wish they would get right down to the sermon? Instead, the service always begins with 20-30 minutes of singing; choir singing, solo singing, group singing. This seems to be a universal prerequisite to the pastor finally making his way to the stage and beginning his sermon. It reminds me a lot of the previews to a movie. I should just show up a little later, but I do believe that is disrespectful.

Of course there is also always that part where someone else speaks before the pastor, too. Usually they make announcements and tell morning jokes that totally aren't funny, but everyone laughs for some reason. It would be funny if no one ever laughed and every one of those guys' jokes bombed for a change.

It's not terrible, but I really just want the meat and potatoes part of the service.

i've been to lots of churches and they all follow the same routine for some reason. greetings/pamphlets, singing, announcements/jokes, prayer, sermon, charity, prayer, communion.

some churches have even more singing, some have a little less, but they all seem to have about a 3 song minimum.

I know what you mean. At Harvest Church, where my wife goes sometimes, they have a "rock band" that plays Christian songs for awhile before the pastor gets down to business. You look around, and you see people really getting into it, doing that one hand in the air thing. But I just don't get it. I always think, "all these songs are doing is saying 'God rules, isn't He great? isn't everything He does really great? Praise praise to God!' and God has got to be sick of this shit."

God had this specific message about forgiveness, love, etc. and that people should live by it. As an analogy, say you're the boss where you work, and you give everyone instructions on what they should do, but instead, they just keep telling you how great you are, then go and do whatever they want. I mean, if you or I would be facepalming, imagine what The LORD must be feeling?

Black church is where it's at. Like an hour and a half of full ahead, organ based gospel music. Then there is the 2 hour sermon which I would happily skip.

Point being, white people church is so effing lame.

Personally i find my "church" elsewhere, but I go and see my brother in-law play organ every once in a while.

The church of satan and scientology both have views in line with mine, somewhat similar in their anti-drug stance. I'm not sure what either of them do or if I'd fit in.

Satanists might accept me, not sure. Scientologists would probably make me watch and do shit I don't want to. Still, I know they would expect more than just sitting in a pew.

I never disliked Church. The vibes were pretty good, it was good for me. I need something that actually speaks to me though...
