I knew this kid. He didn't deserve to die.

I hate the news media. With every update, it's more pro cop. How can someone be halfway in the car and suffer abrasions from being dragged? Why didn't the cop just let go?

Why did Mike walk away from work release (the escape charge)? Why did he take off like that when he knew they had him?

He had some problems, that I know, but nothing that couldn't have been overcome, given the chance to grow up. Just sad.

I don't know if it's the media, people in general, or both, but in America we have a very un-compassionate view of criminals, regardless of their "crime". "He's a criminal" is all some people have to hear, and they don't think there's any other side of the story to hear. The thing is, many "criminals" are really people with personality disorders, mental illness, and other forms of psychological damage; IOW, those who are in the most need of being understood and being shown compassion.
