Sober Friends

Does anyone have any experience with friends who decide to sober up completely? One of my good friends just decided he needed to stop with the drinking and blow (he never smoked weed either). I completely understand and I don't want to be a shitty friend and stop calling him to hangout. I was going to call a few friends and see if anyone wanted to go to the comedy club tomorrow, but there will definitely be drinking there. I'm not trying to shove anything in his face...

Does anyone have experience with a friend who got clean and sober? Do you still hang out? Are they a complete bore to be around?

I consider this guy a very good friend but it's sort of sad how much our relationship revolved around intoxicants.

don't exclude him just because he doesn't want to drink/do drugs. at least offer the invitation and if he consistently declines, like every time, then obviously he is in search of a different type of crowd all together. my guess though is he was drunk and high on blow when he made this decision. or coming down.

Well, since i'm a reformed junkie, I'm usually the one cheering on the ones deciding to get sober/clean from whatever substance.

Had a friend that went to inpatient down in miami, for a long time he bought into the na bullshit. i didn't agree with all that, but I told him that he was my friend and I supported whatever decision he had to make to improve his life. When he realized the twelve steps are bullshit, we had a good laugh about it, and now he smokes weed every now and then and trips on the 4-aco we go in on together.

My stuff was always 'take it to a bathroom' anyway, not social pressures that I had to be reminded of on billboards and surrounded by my parents doing them and stuff (like alcohol)

I think this is a case of talking to your buddy and finding out what level of you doing shit around him is going to cause tension. My buddies have smoked foils of tar near me, and though I did feel a bit envious when they nodded, it wasn't as if I hated them for doing the drugs they were doing/addicted to.

but your buddy may be different.

Tough call, without knowing him.

Thanks for the replies. I just talked to our other friend and it doesn't look like this was a permanent decision. Part of me is going to feel like a dick for doing blow with him again but I'm the last person to preach to someone.

Everyone I know that quit drugs became a serious douchebag. But the ones that quit"drug's" but kept drinking, are by far the worst. Because getting high is bad but drinking 20 or 30 beers in a night is very good.

I'm about to turn 30...

So 15 sober and 15 smoking and drinking....

Thinking 30 is my time to take to some experimenting.

I'd like to drink a whole lot less, which isn't that much already, as I don't like how I feel after more than one... or even on one sometimes.

And since we're moving, I'm thinking I'll have to look for jobs where I pee in a cup, which means that around a few weeks from now would be a good time to stop for a while?

If I move and the job isn't putting me at risk to smoke, then maybe I'll pick it up more exclusively? Even smoking too much gets to me these days though.

My last quarter I bought on Sept 29! And just finished yesterday.

What is on my mind concerning this is what it'll be like to be 'that guy' and how I'll 'be' in social situations, lounging etc.... what will 'happen' to me, how I'll see the world.... stuff like that....

just keeping the talk going kinda' post.....

The question is, do they want to hang out with you? I'm here because yahooka is a higher stock of people that I want to settle the score with. I hate weed and the lifestyle associated with it. I miss some friends from way back, but I never want to be associated with this clown lifestyle again. I know the better breed of friends I had moved on long ago.

I'm so angry at myself for not doing it. Here I am sittin like a little bitch with less than 3 months sober. Roach said he has 6 months like it ain't no thing. Fuck, I was never that messed up until I started smoking....but I'm getting better.

Fuck you guys.

I've got a few friends that have been sober (other than booze, but no heavy drinking) their entire lives.

But I've never had a friend that did drugs and then stopped using. I've only had friends start. Never stop.

That'd be a good cigarette ad. A pair of really confident looking, beautiful woman and man standing next to each other with a cigarette between their fingers looking at you with an aura of supreme authority of being. And underneath:
Never stop.

I don't mind hanging with straight people. I just smoke joints when they aren't looking.

Settle the score? I'm sorry you're deflecting your anger/sadness to pot smokers. Sir-Ex is right though. You do sound like a little bitch.

I stopped hanging out with 'drug friends' a long time ago.
