Your favorite expressions! example the roots or origin of your favorite expression!
I have been thinking about threading this for a while, but haven't gotten around to it. Of course when I got around to it I am drawing a blank. So these are not my favorite but a few to get things going.

A hat-trick or hat trick in sport is the achievement of a positive feat three times during a game, or other achievements based on threes. The term was first used in 1858 in cricket to describe HH Stephenson's feat of taking three wickets in three balls. A collection was held for Stephenson, and he was presented with a hat bought with the proceeds.[1] The term was used in print for the first time in 1878

Mind your Ps and Qs. One of my favorites, Bars used to keep tabs by hash marking Ps and Qs on a chalkboard. People would gossip about how much someone drank and/or owed. Pints and Quarts!

that doesnt even make sense. still water is called a pond, or lake. moving water runs deep because over time it erodes the rock and sediment, for example the grand canyon. its a fucking canyon. still water just sits the fuck there. fuck that saying. with a fucking black dildo.

It means that quiet people often have the deepest character. It's meaning was used literally when the saying was first made, then it meant that smooth waters are deep because the rocks aren't near the surface to disturb the water's surface.
