19st rugby player Chris Birch has stroke after gym accident and wakes up gay | Mail Online

A 19st rugby player suffered a stroke while training - and discovered when he woke up that he was gay.

Chris Birch, 26, had proposed to his girlfriend and worked in a bank when he suffered a freak accident in the gym.

The rugby-loving Welshman was trying to impress his friends with a back flip but broke his neck and suffered a stroke.

He was taken to the Royal Gwent hospital where his girlfriend and family waited for news - but said: 'I was gay when I woke up and I still am.'

His friends were stunned by the dramatic changes to his personality, especially his change in sexuality.

Chris said: 'It sounds strange but when I came round I immediately felt different.

'I wasn't interested in women any more. I was definitely gay.

'I had never been attracted to a man before - I'd never even had any gay friends. But I didn't care about who I was before, I had to be true to my feelings.'

Rugby players are repressed homosexuals anyway, sounds to me like he saw his chance to come out and grabbed it.

Also, i would like to know more about what people think of this. This is actually what I thought to. I think he already was wanting to come out and change to that lifestyle and he saw a good opportunity. like people cant argue with him about his gayness if he attributes it to a freak accident.

I mean OK, so the accident made him attracted to males. But why does he all of a sudden dress like a queen? i wonder if hes got the lisp and everything going. like he had his entire costume ready to go and he was just waiting for some excuse to drag it all out of the closet. (no pun intended)

It doesn't seem too implausible to me. I know Phineas Gage's situation was much more severe, but it at least illustrates how damage to the brain can alter personality. Then again, Lloyd's scenario is pretty plausible too. Who knows.

not a lot of people know this about me but a few years ago i had a pretty serious accident kinda similar to this guy, altho it wasnt from trying to do a back flip or show off in any way.

here is what happened, i went to my friends birthday party in the city at a classy restaurant, we had some drinks and we decided to go to the dance club just a bunch of girls you know...

so we were all going out the door and the maitre d guy stops me sayng "excuse me miss, you dropped your phone" so i turn around and its not my phone at all. so then i turn around to leave and everybody in the party is way ahead of me.

so i went out and i started running across the street to catch up with them, and it was a little rainy and the street was wet and i was wearing heels. I was looking at my friends up ahead and there were like 2 cars in the road so i thought i was perfectly safe when suddenly there is this trolley coming along that i didnt even see, and right at that moment my left heel broke off and i fell right directly in the path of the trolley and it hit me.

when i woke up in the hospital, i was black.
