Ugh, flat tire...
I get more flat tires than anyone I know. In the 9 years that I've had my drivers license I've probably had 15 flat tires. Why me? And why do people leave things in the road that can pop tires?
I ran over a wood screw last night on my way home from work. I was stranded for almost an hour! A wood screw has no godly business in the middle of a paved public road, but there it was and it burst my tire so fast, my tire was pancaked in a matter of minutes. Now technically I know *how* to change a tire, but 50% of the time something just doesn't work out for me in the proccess. This particular time I couldn't jack the car up high enough because the jack that I found in my own trunk seemed to be bought at Toys R Us and probably couldn't jack up a moped, let alone my car. I tried and failed miserably. Long story short, thank God for AAA. I reccomend you all get it. |

get a real jack if you have this problem often. i was driving a friends car when i had a blowout (scary) and her spare was 100% deflated, so i called ama. you should be able to do it on your own and i actually taught my girlfriend to do it herself in case i'm not around.

During what interval of life does one usually learn of caltrops? Because I never did. Upon googling I did recognize the image, but not the name nor the purpose.

Buy you a decent floor jack, it will make changing tires a breeze. Just remember to re-tighten your lug nuts after 25 miles. It might be more or less miles depending on your vehicle.

Snap On-only for those who are investing in their careers, and even then, not always.
Merc, you need a small portable jack, maybe a "bottle type" jack for changing tires roadside. You should also have a 6"x6" piece of 3/4" plywood to set the jack on in the event that you are attempting to change a tire on a soft shoulder or less than firm surface. Floor jacks-they don't travel so well, and can fuck the inside of your trunk up if you don't have them stored properly. |
