Do you know anyone who is really rich?

I can't really think of anybody I know personally who would be considered rich. Nobody even remotely close to being a millionaire. Everyone I know are the working class 99%ers. It's interesting how the rich are so cloistered away from us lower class folks.

I know someone worth a couple hundred million, but you wouldn't know it to look at them. They don't live like it. They inherited it all from their grandparents. They made all their money on the rail road back in the day.

have they ever given you any insight on what it's like to be that rich? and why are some millionaires so freakin modest? at some point that must be a waste of money too.

He spends money, but not crazy. He has a nice ass house and a nice car and whatnot, but nothing that would make you think he was loaded. Like if I had that money, my house would have rooms I didn't know about with a driveway full of Ferraris.

He says its really no different than before he got the money, only now he doesn't have to work. He still does, but with that kind of cash in the bank, its safe to assume it is because he likes his job (he does custom paint for cars and motorcycles)

I consider it not having to decide between the lights, the car note, the mortgage or food...

I used to work for a guy, his father was a regular dude like me, started his own small company and built it from the ground up. Turned it into a great small business that employed a dozen or so people with a pretty good standard of living while he himself made a pretty good chunk of cash. He brought his son in to run the business and retired.

So now the son, who grew up with the company his father ran successfully enough to afford his kids opportunities he didn't have, decided that the money that had supported him all along wasn't enough so he began to gut the company. He fired employees that had been there for years who were loyal and brought in people from employment agencies to fill the positions at about 65% of the cost of the previous work force because he felt the employees who helped his father build the company were getting 'too much of the pie' (I swear those are his words) and didn't deserve the cut they were getting when others would do it for less. He ditched the fleet mechanics we had for years who knew the equipment backwards and forwards in favor of a guy who did quick work cheap. Which turned out to not be the case because although they would charge less, the equipment was breaking down much more often.

I don't work there any more, I held on as long as I could but the client base was drying up because of shitty service due to a steady rotation of 'trainees' who would come in for three weeks and then decide the little money they got wasn't worth the amount of effort put in and they would just not bother to show up anymore.

Now I can't say that this is anything more than poor management on the part of the son but he came into it with a baseline of how much money HE needed to earn in order for it to be worth it to him and killed the company trying to reach it.

Just sharing...

"Conservatives say if you don't give the rich more money, they will lose their incentive to invest. As for the poor, they tell us they've lost all incentive because we've given them too much money."

I've got a relative who died who was a millionaire that owned some big manufacturing company. Also another relative who's very rich, possibly in the millions, who works in the shade.

Yep.

It's funny, depending on who says it, what a different slant it has.
