The display of technique and fretboard theory is impressive, but I don't get parts of the arrangement.

I would like to hear more of what they are about and see that guitar player away from the fusion bassist. If you don't want to have technique like that guitar player, don't learn scales. Don't practice jumping from one octave to another and definitely don't alternate between chords and the modes you can play within the chords. Also, don't use a metronome and you'll never play like that dude.

The bass player is dividing the fretboard(s) like a favourite guitar player of mine. He could say a lot with different pairs of tunings and is a perfect candidate for a harp guitar.
