So i got a violin

my mom rented me one for 9 months for my b-day yesterday. Pretty fucking sweet.

Been wanting one for mad long.

that being said... not the easiest of instruments to play lol

Been playing the guitar for like nearly a decade(although u would probably only think a couple years after hearing me play lol), not hardcore just more of a hobby kinda thing. Like i pick it up and jam a lil when im bored. Decent enough. Can play like flamenco rythyms and shit and that stuff is pretty hard

anyway, ive been able to transfer guitar skills to stringed instruments in the past, but those have always been strummed instruments.

also holy cow is the violin an uncomfortable instrument to play lol
Bow work is interesting as well.

idk just figured id let the internet family know im attempting to learn how to play the violin, so you can go buy earmuffs or w/e so your brain doesnt bleed lol.
Feel super bad for my entire apartment complex lol

Gonna just pick it up every day till i sound better + internet learning

Anyone play the violin on here?

Nice duder... happy birthday.

I didn't know it was today?

Tomorrow is mine, I'll be 30

But I don't want to hijack your thread.

Have you played a stringed instrument before Brother?

Well, happy birthday and you should get an extra bow so you can start experimenting on the guitar like Page did

yea its really nothing like guitar.

i thought the skills would be transferrable too.

but u have to be so gentle and careful with the bow compared to playing even electric guitar (which is more sensitive than acoustic if u get what i mean), but violin is like way more sensitive than either... i tried for a while but never got too into it. i would love to play it well though.

it's a beast to play that thing. i borrowed my aunts once. i was able to get open strings bowed sounding ok and then i put it down. not to discourage you or anything, but my best advice is get a teacher (videos are good but they won't smack your hand when you're holding the bow wrong) and practice at least 20 minutes a day.

Prediction: Fender will forget about his violin in 2 weeks, also he will die alone.

I was in Orchestra in middle and high school. I had older cousins and they would tell me stories about how the music groups would take trips to Disneyland, and a bunch of other places . As a dumb kid that sounded pretty good. Those trips are another story entirely. I signed up to play the bass , but my parents killed that as soon as I tried to take it home that first weekend. So I ended up playing the viola. Violas are slightly bigger then violins and have a c string instead of an e string.
playing the violin and viola are very similar, and yes they are a beast to play well. I was pretty passable but when played well orchestral strings have played some. Of the most beautiful music I've ever heard live.

Ps amp up a violin it you can get some of those cool looking electric ones
