my job really sucks
but I had a realization today at work
I basically get paid 8 bucks an hour to do 4-8 hours of cardio in a sauna 5 nights a week, depending on how busy it is gettin' paid to go to the gym perspective, yo

Restaurant work is the most degrading, hardest, worst-paid work in the world (except for being a ball boy for a college football organization).

This. Sort of.
On busy nights I catch the oven. Meaning, I stand a foot from a 442* oven for the entire shift, pulling the calzones from it with my bare(or latex glove covered) hands from 10pm to 5am, then box and bag them with any other fried food or drinks that were ordered and make sure they get to the appropriate drivers on time without fucking anything up. At the same time I handle all the walk in orders which at times can be 20 or so drunk motherfuckers at a time rushing me for their orders. AND I'm running around the store stocking the cook lines with anything that they're running out of. On Thursday-Saturday we handle on average between 400 and 700 orders all of which are at least one calzone, usually more. On slower nights I do all that, plus make dough, make calzones and take phone orders. It's not enough to replace a full on gym workout, not much in the way of weight lifting, but an 8 hour shift of mild to heavy cardio is pretty decent.

i was a kitchen assistant on £5.73 for 5 years. to be fair i was at my strongest/healthyest when i was at work. but i can definitely sympathise.
one time at work our hot water was off, so i had to boil huge pans or water, then carry them over to my sink single handedly, burns all up my arms. horrendous

Working a busy kitchen is bad ass when your team has everything prepped, it's busy as fuck, you don't stop working, and everything still runs PERFECTLY. The rush of the dinner rush is an awesome experience.
Unfortunately, when the team isn't working together, it becomes a really shitty experience. I don't regret my 2 years experience in a kitchen. Would I recommend it? Absolutely if you're new to the world of slave employment. Great way to break yourself in.

fuck, it made me strong but im so thankful i do not have to do that anymore. if i have to deal with anyone else's boxes but mine i might kill myself. im not kidding that job put thoughts like that into my mind. the entire time i was there i felt like i was wasting my life. it was a job not work. not what i wanted to do. not something i enjoyed or gave me pleasure, fulfillment, or was rewarding in any way. i stewed in hatred of the corporate model and the slavery it produces... as well as the system that catalyzes it's festering like an open wound of sadness. fuck that. i really hated that job. but yeah- it was a good workout- lol.
