Plus the place I got the ticket is like 7 hours away so it's not exactly practical for me to take a day (today) off work to drive down there and pay. Reviewing the letter it seems like I could still get a payment down there tomorrow if I had to and take the point on my license - but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Mothernature: that is exactly why I'm trying to lawyer up on this one. It's complete bullshit and if I buy a new car this year and need complete coverage, 25% insurance is going to be a big increase. Especially since my driving record is spotless. Complete bullshit. |

i did fine in jail, surprisingly. got made fun of a lot, but the black guy doing it pretty much made made fun of everyone in the pod at some point.
"this nigga was in the marching band!" as i'm doing laps "a real military nigga!" on the next lap "ah this mafucka actin like he cain't hear me" "WALK TIGHTER NIGGER" and i pretty much had to laugh. he ended up giving me his number for "anything i needed", like several other people. Met up with one guy on facebook who seems to be doing at least as well as i am, but stayed away from all the rest: career criminals neat story, white boy. moral of the story is that a lawyer is worth some things like not wasting your fucking time in jail over some bullshit, but other times, like your second dui, sometimes it's best to simply plead. (good luck, geeno) |

there were a surprising amount of young people who weren't very hard at all, who really tried to appear hard, that made most of the mistakes for me. all i had to do was watch.
as long as you don't talk shit, don't go looking for trouble, and can make friends with those of your own race, and get along in close proximity with those of others (though i would not have called our amicability friendship the way i might have with the whites-i got along with the blacks, but there was always that knowledge that if someone from the two groups got into a fight, things would divide themselves along color lines wow, digression but you'll do fine as long as your local jails aren't crazy and full of hard-timers and people on their way to prison for life. we had a pod of those folks-people who got "put on the door" got sent to their pod, and they did not tolerate youthful indiscretion over there. heard the fight start minutes after one particularly annoying sumbitch got himself "put on the door" getting put on the door means to go to the bathroom or shower and finding your mattress, clothes, other items, all placed by the door to the pod. as in, the person's not welcome any more. they would usually then go to a CO to get moved, as violence was usually ready to erupt. and in county, most people want to avoid violence, do their time, and get the fuck out of there without getting more charges. putting yourself on the door indicates a lot. he didn't feel threatened-he felt like the pod was all bitches. heard the beating through the wall. it was crazy. jail stories! it was exciting for a suburban white boy. wouldn't want to do it again, but it taught me a lot of valuable lessons. |

Jail wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be.
In Missoula county there was some poor kid who got caught with a bunch of acid but was getting out cuz his grandma could afford the bail. Everyone in there thought he was a narc. I went to talk to him and after like a minute some massive native tapped me on the shoulder, pulled me away and said, "don't talk to that fuck, he's a narc". I didn't talk to him much after that, even though I was almost positive he wasn't a narc, just rich via family. Hope the kid didn't get his ass kicked in the showers like everyone said they wanted to. But I've said it before, Zoo town jail was better than Santa Barbara jail by a damn sight.

Race wasn't a big deal in either jail I was in though, I think that's more prison. We were outnumbered by the Mexicans like 10-1 in Cali, got along with all of them I talked to, even the one who seemed to have a problem with me opened up once I showed him I knew a bit about the Bible.
In Montana jail there were some natives but not enough for it to cause tension, everyone got along fine in both jails really.
