Of course there are, when the UIGEA came into effect poker companies moved their servers overseas, outside of US jurisdictions. It's down to state legislation whether or not you can play poker for real money online. I think the only place that's actually outlawed it is Washington - and maybe Kentucky, otherwise you'll be fine.

US Poker Sites - United States Online Poker Sites for US Players

United States Poker Sites
Is US Online Poker Legal? Though United States poker sites / US poker sites aren't exactly abundant at the moment there are still some of the highest quality / best poker sites for US players for real money, available. Whether the current selection of US online poker sites for US players will continue to accept USA players, depends on the future legal issues of online poker in the United States of America. The passing of UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act) was aimed at financial institutions and calls for them to block transfers to (deposits) and from (withdrawals) from US online poker sites.

The UIGEA act is being challenged by several groups including iMEGA (The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association) who have filed for a restraining order on the enforcement of the act until the pending court challenge on the constitutionality of the act. If they are successful then it will be great news for real money US poker sites & players from the USA / United States and online casino players alike as it could pave the way for more USA legal poker sites online / new US poker sites for US players (and casinos) to re-enter the U.S. market. There are also calls for regulation in order to open up United States online poker, license the operators and raise revenue through taxation, at the end of the day the only reason the Government tried to ban US online poker was because there is real US money trading hands and they aren't getting their slice of the pie!

Notice: Online Poker US Players - Please remember there are still plenty of legal real money US poker sites accepting US players!

Yeah I've read plenty of those articles and seen plenty of the websites that supposedly take them.

What my question was though is which one is the best for the US... A lot of them are banned ATM like pokerstars, partypoker, etc..

But there's carbon poker, bet online, and lock poker all seem to be the most commonly mentioned.

pokerstars and full tit's servers were overseas as well. the US gov't (DOJ) indicted both for fraud last summer because of the way they were getting the money online (paying off small banks, creating offshore shell companies, etc.). stars has since operated only outside of the US, and full tilt hasn't been online at all since a few weeks after "black friday". it turns out FT was horribly managed and didn't seperate the player's funds from their revenue. this was a big mistake that eventually led to their bankruptcy.

sure, if you can get money on/off one of these other sites, you could probably play. but good luck with that! i think cake is probably the most legit still serving US customers, but that isn't saying much.

Just joined "Cake" poker.

Still prefer holdem...no limit.

played for 3 hours, lost a dollar...but earned $1.21 in bonuses.

not a real big money making venture yet

and if/when you cashout, they only pay in check .

tournaments are where its at, at most you can lose your dollar buyin, but if you are in the top three you get a nice payout. i think its like 20 bucks 1st place in a 45-man tourney. and the competition isnt that bad with all the us players gone, its all russians and south americans playing, and they cant play for shit. shooting fish in a barrel

I'm an American player...had no problem joining or making a debit card deposit (some companies will reject charges to online gambling sites)

Where can I find the most reliable rating of online casinos around?

Please do not blame me for that off-topic question, since I am really desperate to look for the answer anywhere... Can anyone advise the most reliable source which rates the best virtual casinos (non-rogued), along with the current bonus list? I attempted to consult several sites, but every site appears to be slightly biased towards a specific software platform or even paid by some casino company... while I am trying to find a totally independent rating though!
Thank you very much in advance.
