Out on a limb.
Today I am part of a new statistic, the unemployed no one gives a shit about...
For two years I was on the dole after the folks who ran my bakery decided it was better to cut their losses and jump out of the southern California market all together than try and drum up a bigger share of the market. They tightened the belt, around the neck and just like that, we were done. So I spent the first few months on vacation, enjoying the fruits of my twenty years of toil but knowing it can't last I jumped into (albeit halfheartedly) and found that my good fortune of the previous years had screwed me for these lean times as now I can't find employment because I made a bit too much money. Overqualified they call it, afraid as soon as you get settled in a better gig will come along, no one wants to take a chance. Now after the first year skated past with nary a hint of gainful employ I find that no longer am I overqualified, I'm 'stale'. I have been unemployed for too long and no one wants to have to chance hiring a guy who is trying to get back into the swing of things. Didn't seem too worrisome as I figured someone wants to hire someone like me and since UI was keeping us afloat I wasn't dreading the inevitable, thinking when the shit is close to the fan I could pull something out of my hat, it's been done before, I know it can be done again. Now I get to find out... Today I am part of a new statistic, the unemployed no one gives a shit about. FREEBALLIN'! fuck. :-/

I have a gig here and there, I know folks who have been where I am and for fifteen years I lived week to week making commission while paying all my expenses so I can deal without the amenities in life so I am low maintenance however there are things we can't forget about like insurance and rent and the light bill so ditches here and drywall there, maybe some driving and locksmithing gigs we shall do okay and I'm no longer legally responsible for my kids so if the wife and I run away then yay for us...
Ever forward.

are you still on unemployment compensation?
(that entitlement stuff so many members think you shouldn't get) and the stuff republicans want to eliminate altogether.

I've been out of work 2 years and I have to find a job soon. I don't find your thread encouraging Oneder. Perhaps I can train my dogs to hunt and live in the woods...

I hope you find a job soon. Corporations have us by the balls. This was the plan all along by our government bankrupting America. (Major tax cuts for the wealthy during a time of war, among other things, everyone knew was a recipe for disaster. It's never been done ever in our history, people were always told to sacrifice.) Now our rights are being stripped away. And don't forget corporations are people and so on. All this has happened in 10 years, a blink of the eye. 1. Indefinite military detentions of U.S. citizens - no more Habeas corpus 2. Targeting U.S. citizens for killing 3. Arresting witnesses for recording police actions 4. Using GPS to track your every move 5. Surveillance drones spying on American soil

yeah I've been there. If you really need cash day to day you can check out Labor Ready, the money's not great but it'll put food on the table for the time being. Maybe trim down your resume so you don't look so overqualified?

Im feeling good about my employment situation.
Especially since in my new position i work so closely with suppliers that I'd have no problem getting a job with them if I needed to. It's pretty cool being the delivery guy sometimes. |

I also have been unemployed for 2 years, running out of EUC teir 1 in ... anyday....and extensions depend on the current PA asshole republican governor to request additional extensions from the federal gov. (Which because of his political affiliation, he's reluctant to do) So I'm a bit concerned . Having worked my previous job for 13 years, allowed me for such long term benefits. However @ 59 + it's more than difficult to find work in manufacturing, when most of those jobs no longer exist in my area.

Yeah, I'm in the same spot for a different reason. I've never been a good worker unless I'm doing something I like. I'm too smart for my own good. Shit like moving, construction, customer service, it's hard for me to cut it because I feel too good for it.
I picture the only job I could hold down for more than 6 months (my record) is one where I have my own office, in charge of important things. I could do something like that for life, or even an accountant, but I demand respect and air conditioning, a chair, and my own quarters. Heck, even a cubicle is fine, but I don't want to be around a bunch of chatty women with 100 iq's... This may seem humorous, but I was born and raised spoiled. I'd have been better off being average brained and more motivated like my brother. Intelligence is only good if you know how to use it. I feel you 1. Even though we have different reasons. |

^Soon to be a poster child for Unicef? i myself find pride gets in theway...for instance..McDonalds is hiring monday to friday..perfect hours..enough money to pay the rent..did i apply? hell no..why? what if by cance someone i went to school with stopped by for a quarter pounder..and there i am..asking if theyd like ketchup salt and vinegar.. i guess im just an asshole..but i know i am meant for more and as long as i have food in my belly and rent paid..im all good. but really i wish i was a better person. a person who would feel pride in selling a double cheeseburger to an obese child.

Every time I agree with wellfleation, a bit of me dies.
It's true dhomley, you need to get it together. And Roach I feel for you man. Like I told you before, my company hired a guy whos in his 60's and he turned out to bring all kinds of great knowledge to the table. He only got hired because a recent hire knew him and claimed that the guy was his uncle. So it really is 90% of who you know, 5% what you know and 5% being able to adapt to shit that probably sucks (underemployment). |
