In a perfect world...

What are some of your visions for a more harmonious planet, what do you think needs to happen in a realistic sense to bring about a Utopian ideal that we can all share in, how do you think we get to Nirvana?

I think a good start would be to separate 'faith' from religion in a sense that when it all gets boiled down most folks have 'faith' in something but religion does nothing but define who/what it is you should have faith in and deliver that message with violence and ferocity.

So perhaps we need an absence of ego to begin the journey as if we are all truly equal in the eyes of whatever you have faith in, be it yourself, a god or just 'that guy over there' then the drive to move forward should encompass all of us as one no matter their state or yours.

I think next we really need to 'devalue' ourselves in the grand scheme of things, we aren't the top rung of the ladder, not by a long shot. We need to realize the symbiotic relationships of the matter that makes up the place and get right with it no matter our fear of the undesired outcome, I mean if we were meant to be worm food by design at 35 then it should be so, perhaps if we weren't so desperate to hang on, this place would be really nice for the time we share it and then we are gone. Once we place ourselves into proper perspective in the cosmos then we can turn our focus outside the bubble.

Too much coffee, too much weed, too many Vicodin?

Maybe.

Epiphany?

Probably not but damned frustrating sometimes.

I bid you all a fair morning.

In a perfect world, what you did with your life would matter more than who you knew.

Having an ego makes things more fun.

In a more harmonious world, there are three times as many women as there are men, and they're all happy to share their man with a few other women, in every region, in every climate.

That right there would be the catalyst to solving pretty much every problem we have.

1, you kind of lost me, but if I can make sense of anything you're saying, it's that we are a speck of dust in the universe. Somehow if everyone admitted this it would change anything?

Too much weed man. In my perfect world about 85% of the human population would be eradicated.

Zeitgeist...The Venus Project.

Yea, it's not gonna happen.

You could write a book (several actually) on the reasons.

To me 'having less ego' =/= 'devaluing ourselves' exactly and I'd like to say more about that, although I don't think you, ~1~, meant it that simply either.... you just gave me an idea to talk on.

There is a proper way in which the ego can be an asset to us.
Using our egos correctly.

Instead of abandoning, it's a proper ordering of and perspective on ego that would help a lot.

I feel this is key in ANY relationship, let alone in forming Utopia.

It's not casing away ego, it's knowing what it's for.

The practice of seeing how we're interconnected and coexist disperses the ego into the world at large.... there are a LOT of people who sustain the world and 'YOU'.

We live because other people live basically.

Sure... we could 'go live in the woods and I don't need society'.... but how many people are REALLY doing that?

I agree about a good distinguishing between 'religion' and 'faith/spirituality'.

The core of those traditions are 'liberation/freedom/fullness',not 'exclusion/division/the elect'.....

You really need to consider broadening your understanding of humanity.

Sure, you've quite smoking weed. Now, you're stumbling drunk off of your own self pity and self loathing.

Most people are basically animals, and the more the upper tier of society tries to assimilate them into civilized culture, the worse things become.

We need to return to our evolutionary roots for harmony. We must rid the world of those who don't/can't contribute and start anew.

The world is beautiful as she is. Recycled energry, reduced consumption would all be great on a large scale. I just don't see it happening until conditions get really bad and by then probably be too late.

Luckily the world will always survive. (well until the sun goes nova)

For change like your talking about the Earth itself has to humble us. If we don't manage to kill ourselves off at some point the Earth will do it. I believe everything occurs in cycles at some point a major war or geologic event will reduced civilization back to the basics. We will again become almost like cavemen technology will be lost and languages and whole cultures dissapear.

We would then be forced to live in a more harmonious role with nature. Until we develop over the course of thousands of years (or perhaps find relics of the past to speed up the rate)

Going off on a bit of a tangent but my conclusion is we do live in harmony with nature. Just more on a thousands of year plan or millions. I love thinking in terms of geologic time so humbling.

I do like your ideas, -1-,, but if we did all abandoned our egos, id feel like wed resemble the neutral planet from futurama.
As for me? Anarchy, the realization that we are in it together, we dont need a big brother and the motivation of greed and lust to further ourselves and abilities, and the respect towards all of our earthly companions to function like that. I have no idea of how to realistically make that happen, but the idea that we work hard for each other just cause its awesome is a nice idea.

Utopia or Nirvana being a perfect state of humanity where the greatest amount of happiness (or utility) is guaranteed for the greatest number of people (ideally all people)?

If that is the case, then the steps to achieve such would require first to remove any elements that infringe on said utility, correct?
As the thought process flows, the problem in reaching said utility lies not in the natural world, but rather in humans themselves, ergo humans are the greatest obstacle in achieving said Utopia.
So it follows that in order to achieve this Utopia, you just need to remove the obstacles.
A Utopia state implicit in its definition is permanent, since it is a perfected state, so to guarantee no obstacle infringes on the utility of humanity, all humanity must be wiped out.

It's not all humanity, or even most of us, that are the problem. We have terrible violence in this world, but most people learn to curb their violent impulses in childhood. We have exploitation, but again, most people learn to be at least moderately considerate of others quite early in life. In fact, if everyone had the respect for his fellow man that the members of this board have (or virtually everyone each of us knows) the world would be free of war, poverty, and other horrors that we create.

I truly believe there are only a small number fucking it up for the rest of us. Like a few milligrams of poison in an otherwise healthy body. Enough to slowly kill it, but hardly a substantial part of the system in terms of quantity.
