another ford stock, low buying oppourtunity...

kodak.

ok, yes the wsj is reporting bankruptcy is on the horizon, which would make the stock likely worthless..

and yes, its a dying business, and digital has all about taken it over.

but its times like these that those with iron cahones can turn a tiny savings into a huge pile.

kodak is at 43 cents a share, and dropping fast...

however- they still have lots of valuable patents, and if they sell them for a good price, could keep going for a while... and if they manage to do things right, this company with a long american history could somehow make at least a moderate comeback.

...and honestly, its like people said about ford stock when it was 1.50 a share... you can buy 20 shares of kodak for what it would cost you to buy lunch tommorow- and the lunch and the stock might both be gone by the end of the day- but at least the kodak stock has less of a change of dissapearing down the toilet than that lunch you just ate (maybe not by much but at least by a little bit).

if someone spend 5,000 dollars on kodak stock today... and kodak manages to get past the hysteria and somehow manages to have a reasonable month or 2- the .43-5.85 52 week price range means that unless it goes to 0, (which it seems pretty likely despite all my optimism that it will) but IF it doesnt, you just bought shares in a company that has been at 70 bucks a share at some point in the last 5 years...for 43 cents each.

if it got to 2 bucks a share in a few months... thats a 400% return...

if it got back to the high end of its 52 week range , your 5k became 25k.

....so who thinks i should buy some kodak stock?

Look at what they're reporting on their balance sheet.

kodak may be dying, but ford has definitely made a come back.

Auto wise, there really isn't a lemon on the market right now.

Obama should get some credit, but he doesn't.

Parts of his jobs bills (the ones ...at least 4...that the House rejected) are now being used/proposed by republican candidates.

If it weren't such a sad situation (politics) it would be laughable.

Kodak was big, but failed to keep in step with technology.

yup, everyone needs cars, unfortunately very few people shoot on film anymore. except for this bad boy here.

it getting harder and harder to use film these days, all the labs are closing down one by one, and digital cinema cameras like RED and Arri Alexa are eliminating the demand for film. As much as it pains me to say i think buying kodak shares is too risky. at least, spending serious money on shares is. buy $20 worth for shits and giggles.

id love to know some good investments though - just had myself a little windfall

there were two auto bailouts, the first was under Bush using TARP funds

..i would not buy kodak stock no matter how cheap

if you're looking for a high reward investment i recommend south american telecoms, they're well off their 52 week highs and many pay a health dividend (4-10%)

i sold my ford stock at 11.43 for a small profit , ford stock is hot shit right now, i wished i held onto it but i was tempted to lock in a small profit rather than risk havign to wait out another dip if the market rally ends.

a couple months ago i bought a lot of bank of america stock at like 6.50 average, then it tanked to 5, its just coming back now.

honestly i think buying any stock right now would be a good long term investment but i am waiting for this rally to end before buying again.

people like to say that - but it would seem there's a resurgence. and there's always been hobbyists and a good sum of professionals who prefer it/it's quality over digital. is it enough to keep x amount of large companies running? probably not.
I know myself, and most people I've encountered, some professional, some hobbyists - all go Ilford. go fig'r.
