Should I buy this car?
A 1992 Honda Civic in decent condition. $1000.
YES? NO!? I'm leaning toward yes because it SOUNDS like a good deal and I Know the person selling it.. but... opinions?

yes, civics are a solid car and if it passes a mechanical inspection (do this first) then by all means, acquire that bitch faster than a crack addicts next hit.

I love hatchbacks.. it's a tough decision. I'll wait to get a few more opinions, maybe notepad will explain the only negative so far.

import? +
cheap on gas? + cheap price? + passed mechanical inspection? + it's a no brainer, really. what do you want people here to tell you? "yeah, i have a feeling the previous owner replaced the intake with a paper towel tube and the wheel wells are bondo'd to shit."

No dude. I'm hoping someone here might have experience with that model or if they think the price is fair for a car of that age etc.

it's fair. i've sold and traded in a few cars in my day and if that thing is in good shape you should pounce on it.

vouch the black paintjob consideration. after i rolled the previous genesis, i went with white and have zero regrets. white is right.

check the underside for rust, fender wells, and under floorboards (underside)
open the trunk and see if it smells, if it does the seal on the lid/hatch may leak. standard tranmission, make sure there's a full clutch pedal. Automatic transmission, listen for grinding or thumping, or a feel of slipping. full brake pedal, does it pull when braking somewhat hard. When was the last inspection/fluid and filter change, why is the person selling it, tread on tires....all weather or summer skins. listen for screeching when brakes are applied. for power steering , should feel smooth with no noise, when turning small circle should not feel like it's under or oversteering (front end alignment)(ball joints etc.) exhaust is usually cheap to fix, except if it has a converter, those are expensive.(if it has passed a recent emissions test you should be ok)

Thank you roach.
I know very fucking little about cars. This will actually be my first if I end up getting it, so I suppose a good beater to learn the ropes. I intend to get learned about how the guy/girl works and add another branch of knowledge to my repertoire.

you can't really go wrong at that price as long as it passes the ME, which covers everything roach just mentioned.

my friend drives an '04 civic with 220K (km) on the engine. he races the thing, aside from (because of) routine maintenance that thing is still flawless. civics will run until you die if you take care of her properly.
