I have no problem with it morally, but if it was an indoor atm, I wouldn't do it.
What I know is if the atm malfunctions and money spits out, there is an investigation. They investigate the video and it's considered theft. Money found on the ground is a grey area. |

i havent the slightest idea if legally there would be an issue or not . You are almost for certain on tape taking it but there is no way u would know how to return the money to its rightful owner. At worst i would think u might get a call from some bank and have to return the money.
Morally...i would have no problem keeping it. I would just think it was my lucky day.

if it really does start to way heavy on your conscious you could always donate the money to a charity of some sort in your area.

It's scrip bitch! Hurry up and buy somethin' real with it before everybody figures out it's all worthless. Then it'll be like musical chairs.

Honestly man, I wouldn't keep it.
I'd buy myself a beer and donate the rest or make sure I loaded up a couple of street folk asking for money. Once I found 40 Euros in a copy of Dante's Inferno at a book give away, so I called and asked my Friend if he knew who brought in the book. He said no. So I exchanged all but $5 and gave the rest to a local food pantry. I kept the $5 to remind me that I ALWAYS had money to give people. I'm not saying keeping it is WRONG.... I'm just saying what I'd do with it. I'm not hard up for money, thankfully, so I wouldn't just fritter it away, myself. But eh, that's just me.

I don't know that bad is the word but it obviously belonged to someone at some point and I'd probably feel a tinge of guilt knowing that they were out $180. Really shy of calling the bank and asking if anyone reported losing money (lol) there really isn't anything you can do in that situation.
LOL @ anyone thinking/saying you could get in trouble though. It wasn't with a wallet or ID/bankcard so I'm not sure why you'd feel guilty or what you really could do other than keep it and enjoy your luck besides donate some of it as Sage said. |
