Straight cash, homey
So i drove up to an atm last night, and as im withdrawing my 20 dollars, i look down on the ground and see a bunch of twenties laying all over. This was at night, the bank was closed, and there was nobody else around so I reached down and picked that shit up without hesitation. Turned out to be $180. I didn't really think twice about taking it, but now a couple of people have been giving me shit about it. Saying things like "they have cameras they will see you bending down and picking it up, your gonna get in trouble for that, you should have called the bank and returned it, etc." Now i'm not too worried about getting in trouble but it did get me feeling a little bit guilty. I'm probably gonna hold on to the money for a few days and see if the bank calls or anything like that. What would y'all have done, kept it or returned it?
Also, who the fuck drops 180 bucks at an atm and doesn't notice? |

Uuuum, idk that's a good question. Is there even a lost and found phone number for the ATM? I'd have googled it just to appease my conscience and when I found nothing, I'd have kept the money without a shred of guilt. But that's just me.

It might sound silly, but put yourself in their shoes. Wouldn't you want the money back. People drop stuff, it happens.
I know I couldn't just keep it. also if a camera saw you, you might get in trouble... like i said earlier and it wasnt your money.

Ya know, if you really want to get technical about it, it actually wasn't anyone's money. It was laying on the ground. Just because it was laying by an ATM, doesn't mean it came from that ATM or that bank.
Who cares if you are seen on camera picking it up. You didn't steal it. You found it. On the ground. Outside. As far as calling the bank. One thing is for sure. It's not their money and really none of their business. Now that you've told people how much you found, it would be easy to scam you out of the money. Keep the money and consider it your lucky day!

^ they could rewind the tape a bit further and see where the money came from and who it belong(ed) too.
that being said, i doubt you'll get in any trouble. first of all, the person who lost the money would have to realize they dropped the cash at the atm and then call the bank and report it missing in order for the bank to launch any sort of "investigation" (if they felt inclined, which is pretty unlikely). secondly, i'm not sure that you have done anything scrictly illegal, because its found money. although i'm not exactly sure how the law differentiates "found" and "stolen" items (reminds me of that time in trailer park boys when ricky had cory and trevor move people's lawn furniture to the curb on garbage day, then he'd drive around and collect it claiming he "found" it in their garbage) |

People have a responsibility to actively keep their possessions in their possesion. It's one thing to return an item to its rightful owner if you have a reasonable way to track them down, otherwise it's yours man.
Especially when it comes down to money, there's no way to tell for sure who it belongs to.

the biggest question would be, did you actually make a withdrawal with your own debit card? if you didnt, theres pretty much no way they will be able to identify you just by a video of your face.

hookers and blow. It'd cost them way more than 180 to prosecute for it and I don't think they'd even be able to prove you're guilt. you're pretty much in the clear.

I found about 200 quid flying around on a grassy knoll before. My friend and I split it and bought a load of beer and weed. Later we hooked up with these gals and all got wrecked together in the woods. Ahhhh the joys of free money. I only have one regret.. that I havn't found any more since. I guess that's my quota filled.
