Da skunk jus dun n sprayed mah dawg!

I'm dog sitting for a friend this weekend. I am up at parents place finally having a relaxing weekend. At 2 am wake up hear my parents up and an overpowering odor in my room. Damn dog got sprayed right outside my window had to sleep in a different room after my Dad and I washed the dog. We used a gentle soap and lots of water.

What do y'all use to remove the odor and anyone ever been personally sprayed? I'd imagine it would burn the eyes somethin fierce.

Tomato sauce, though I've never been.

You can usually smell a skunk a mile away.
and learn to stay clear of them.

Bart: What's that smell?

Lisa: It smells like Otto's jacket.

Thanks! My friend in vet school recommended this. The Recipie & Directions

Although surprisingly our rapid 2 am bath work pretty well. I think this dogs short coat helped avoid absorption of the spray.

It's because the dog was snoopin around the garage
when a paint can fell over and a white stripe was created
on the dogs back, while a skunk in heat was prowling outside.

(chase ensues)

After giving the dog a bath,
you find you just bathed the skunk
and your friend's dog has runnoft.

I wonder who first thought to try tomato sauce to neutralize skunk-smell.

Probably the same guy who first looked at a cow's teet, and thought "I gotta get me some of THAT", and thereby began our culture's tradition of drinking cow milk.

In theory won't shaving off the hair eliminate the smell?

The above recipient worked fairly well. I'm convinced the short coat of this dog is what made it not too bad.

Dogs use their hair to regulate body temperature and keep bugs off. If you shave a dog it can cause severe discomfort and possibly health issues.

So shaving the dog would work but could cause health issues.. Why not get a 55 gallon drum of tomato sauce and dunk the dog in that?
