Baltimore

Will be getting there in early October, possibly for the winter.

Been from Morgantown to Erie in the past 3 weeks.

Just got internet/phone reception for the first time in 5 weeks...T-Mobile=weak sauce.

Thank you for this.

Sometimes I forget the platform Charles has freely given me, being caught up in the path I have chosen.

And then, in a moment of clarity I remember.

And it feels like home.

Thanks "Chucky"

Roach, do not fucking go to B'more. Very bad mojo seeps from the very asphalt. Nuthin' good enough there to make it worth your while. Escaped from there several times in my life but just kept returning like some suicidal boomerang. Most uncivilized city in North America IMNSHO. Asshole drivers, S.S. style LEO's, shitty taxes, fucked up roads, completely shit schools... the list is endless. Even the fucking Bay is dead, so their once ever so popular crabs are now all flown or trucked in from the Gulf. It's fucking nuts. Pick any direction on the compass from there and you'll land somewhere better. Cities are shit anyway, but that one is just an abyss. Only thing going for it is fairly good water (for a metro system that recircs endocrine disruptors), and it's close enough to the giant tit in D.C. that there's always work (not that city residents care to be bothered... something like 10+ % unemployment). B-more is one of the first low profile sites that the rulers try out their latest and greatest domestic terror shit, so drones, the new spy choppers, etc. abound. Come out'a the old Edgewood Arsenal & Martin's Airport. No good for anything but domestic spying. HLS/DEA supplies the hardware and the Maryland National Guard supplies the pilots and flight crews. Everything from night vision and real time thermal scans to wide angle high flyin' H.D. day/night surveillance. I think their goal is to replace London as the most spied on city in the world. Flee, flee!

Yeah... crack 'n her'on, definitely the life's blood of the city that breeds and bleeds. The now dead mayor, then guv, who "revitalized" B'more had a slogan back in the 80's painted on all of the public benches that said "The City that Reads", which it didn't, but the good folks of B'more would add a 'B' to them, apparently not realizing that they had spelled the name of a baked good... nice irony.

Used to be known for its redlight district - The Block, and seafood. Now the Bay is a giant puddle of physteria, the block has gone corporate (Hustler Club?), and I'm pretty sure they still lead the country in teen pregnancies, STD infections, and were it not for their world class trauma centers they'd probably lead the world in violent crime fatalities per capita.

Not too long ago a gang of young adult black folk decided that it would be nice to beat some poor white tourist half to death on the steps of city hall to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. As if that wasn't enough they stole the fuckers shoes and clothes as well.

There's a very strict prohibition on raw milk, but you can buy her'on on just about any block in town. Fuckin' place is insane.

The whole fuck city is a slum.

It must be a horrid place.

Yeah but that doesn't begin to explain why more than half of the population is on the dole. There's a culture of violence and sloth that dates back decades. These days it's just escalated to the point of near complete anarchy once the sun goes down. There are plenty of parts where the cops just straight won't go unless it's in force, and if some poor fuck tourist wanders down the wrong one way... see ya.

Met a guy who moved here for a job from Cinnci. One day he and his wife decided to just drive into town from their rural/suburban new home and check out the sites. They just followed a highway, Rt. 40, straight into Baltimore. Before they got half way into town his wife was shitting her pants, and by the time they managed to get home they were putting their house up for sale and moving back to Ohio.

They have gangs of little wanna be thugs on fucking bicycles that terrorize tourists by surrounding their cars in traffic or at a light and jumping up and down on them til the people throw money out the window. I'm talkin' like 10 and 12 year olds. It's like that "Dawn of Man" opening scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey up in there.

I have friends that wanted to come down for a ball game and I'm like, "make it a day game, book a hotel way the fuck out in the county, pay to park real close to the gates, don't look or talk to anyone on the street, just stay aware and keep fucking moving". They thought I was nuts... til they got here and didn't do as I had said. The three of them got robbed in the parking garage of the Hyatt right in the middle of the Inner Harbor tourists trap. Some friends from L.A. had their rental car stolen from the valet lot at Ruth Chris'. When they finally got a replacement they returned to their hotel and got robbed at knife point in the elevator as they went to the theater the very next evening.
Welcome to Baltimore. The shining pearl in a shit pile of fascists socialist policies gone mad. What can I say... here is a city, in a State that is more Democratically controlled than any place else in the U.S. They've been doing things there their way for decades... and yet they aren't responsible for anything. It's really quite remarkable. Not that the Republitards would've fared much better, but it still amuses me to listen to their mindless drivel and blame gaming.

Baltimore is one of the 5 blackest cities in the nation.

Yea Baltimore is a shit hole for Sure. I'm a New Yorker myself an I thought there was some shitty places there but Baltimore is real shitty. I live outside Baltimore up rt 40 but I must say Maryland is a much better place to live then other states I've been. and the country where I live right on the water is beautiful.

lol @ Galt. Sound a little more like a sheltered old racist. Please don't bother with a novel length reply either, I don't need any more anecdotes. If you're afraid to walk anywhere around Camden Yards then your lilly-white ass doesn't belong in any city let alone Baltimore. The only parts you had right are it being such a bastion of democratic dumbassery and the disgusting taxes (including a flush tax and a rain tax).

Welcome to Baltimore roach, certainly plenty of really awesome places, and certainly plenty of really scary areas, you know, like any other city anywhere. However permitted you aren't a complete moron it's quite easy to distinguish which is which, and even then the scary places aren't as bad as they look. Glad to hear you're still alive and kicking you old bastard. Assuming Galt's well spun yarn didn't scare you away hit me up and maybe we'll have a beer or something.

Oh, and fuck you grieves, and you too terry you Bronco loving fuck. And no I'm not mad about that drumming we took week 1, just slightly embarrassed.

Been busy and missed your reply.
Old, yeah older'n most here no doubt.
Rascist, nah... more of a socio-economic elitist.
Sheltered, not remotely.

Lived in Irvington and walked to work in Edmonson Village with my girlfriend every day back in the early 70's. Lived and worked in Pig Town, Waverly, Fells Point and various points throughout the "Wild Wild West". The anecdotes are meant to stress the warnings to those who may not appreciate the underlying lack of humanity that this particular city's demise has fostered. The situational awareness necessary for the average suburbanite to survive is not immediately apparent to most, so I think it advisable to not tempt fate and just avoid it all together. Even the "coolest" places in B'more aren't worthy of a stabbing, theft or beat down, and statistically it's one of the most likely places in the country to get just that.

I have no personal "fear" of working and/or visiting anywhere in Baltimore. I avoid it these days on principle, out of prudence, and by choice.
The principle is that I don't agree with how the rulers have misspent our money there and I don't intend to add one cent to their efforts, even if it's as little as a quarter in a parking meter.
The prudence is just experience and a healthy respect and understanding of statistics. I've already used up more stupid than any ten people so I figure it's smart to play the averages for a change and just say no... to Baltimore that is.
The choice part comes mainly from retiring early and not having to visit there, or anywhere else for that matter, to chase dollars any more. What little that passes for culture and entertainment there can be easily and safely suplanted elsewhere without suffering the impacts of failed social engineering on a community of people without hope. Aside from that, there are plenty of venues in safer places that don't reek of piss and get your car towed or stolen. Some might call it common sense.
