Tell us something new about yourself

Tell us something about yourself that you havent already shared with us.
plz

Can be big and serious, or small and lulzy. Your choice.
Big and serious always makes for a better thread though, as well as gets others to open up too..

no jokes/lies for lulz though. Only truths.
(/me looks at the mysterious grieves)

im honestly having trouble thinking of something myself at the moment, as ive shared quite a bit with you guys lol.. , but ill definitely think of something soon and post.
just felt like making the thread anyway so i dont forget.

k.
let's get to know you a little better.

if you dont participate by sharing at least a little truth, Sage and Komp have agreed to permaban you. So you better share.

I used to have this. Then I took a job where I basically had to talk in front of a new group of people everyday, and now I dont fear it at all. In fact its fun now.

This kind of fear is not like an actual fear. I consider actual fears to be situations of actual danger. You can do alot to grow as a person if you can step outside of your comfort zones and consciously put yourself in positions that you are afraid of.

Maybe there is some job that you would fucking love if you overcame this fear and all thats between you and doing something you are genuinely passionate abotu is this stupid fear of looking dumb in front of other people. When you overcome that fear you realize how fucking ridiculous it was.

Whereas the shit in life that you are supposed to fear, like fucking bears and terrorists and disease and shit? That shit will actually hurt you. But talking in front of people? Thats just psychological bullshit is all that is.

Anyway im not saying this to be mr. tony robbins inspiring guy. i dont mean you should just get up right now and go start talking in front of people. just do what you genuinely like to do in life and dont let your fear stop you is what im saying.

fuck i am being tony robbins arent i. god dammit.

my thing to share in this thread is that i secretly want to be tony robbins. i am addicted to positivity and being that asshole who tries to cheer up the guy whos having a shit day and just wants to get his work done. i think positive thinking and a positive attitude can get you places. i think you shouldnt just come in to work monday and punch your timeclock and down your coffee and robotically do your shit. i think having a smile and enjoying it can alter your reality and increase the quality of your life.

is it weird hearing me say this? my persona on this website is usually cynical and jaded. but god dammit if im not that guy in real life.

i am somewhat nervous for public speaking (like anyone else) but i actually have experience doing it so it isn't the end of the world. i once spoke in front of a bunch of smart people i respect for about an hour and nobody told me to stop.

I used to have it also.. now I'm a teacher.

I enjoy hiding cryptic clues all over the place.. from hotel rooms to second hand books and student worksheets. It gives me immense pleasure thinking about who might find them and play it on. I was inspired to do it when I stayed in a guesthouse a while back and there was some cool quote written on the ceiling in glow in the dark ink.. which you could obviously only see when the lights were off.

i think my thing is that public speaking, is of course a rational fear for everyone to have. but i do think that as a type of fear its more like the fear of, say, the first time you jump into a pool and you have to swim. its that initial exposure to the fear that is really the source of the anxiety and once you get validation that you CAN do that thing, im pretty sure that its also quite natural to overcome it. like its not that hard.

its like public speaking or anything where you are in front of alot of people is the high dive at the pool, right? the first time you see it, its natural to fear, and then you get up there and you are fucking scared shitless and then you jump and not only are you fine but its also fun as hell and you want to keep doing it over and over.

confidence you can totally fake and learn to fake efficiently and ironically or not, that makes you more ACTUALLY confident because then youve gotten some kind of validation that what you are doing is working? like i think fake confidence is a healthy good thing.

and the thing with public speaking is that its an overall huge confidence booster. again to be tony robbins, i think when you gain confidence in that you automatically gain confidence and ability in lots of other social skills. for an introvert like me, thats really important if you want to actually grow as a person.

i have to really work at being social and having confidence and all that stuff. it does not come natural to me at all.

I don't find it in my case to be a confidence issue. Sure I am not confident when it comes to public speaking but that doesn't necessarily mean I lack confidence in the rest of my life. Maybe my fear stems from past experiences, or maybe thats just the way I am, not sure. And sure, exposure therapy is great stuff, but it isn't like one time is going to fix me. I have dealt with public speaking my whole life, and I still have a crippling fear of it. You are coming from a good place, with good ideas, where you are genuinely trying to help... but it isn't as peaches and cream as you make it sound

well one, i apologize, i dont mean to imply that i was talking about you. for ME it was a confidence issue and those are MY experiences.

for two, i dont mean to nitpick, but you first say that in your case its not a confidence issue and then you go on to say that you are not confident in public speaking. i dont mean to be an accuser here but thats just my point- it IS a confidence issue for most people in the same way that most people dont have the confidence to go up to the high-dive in the pool as a kid, or rid the biggest roller-coaster in the theme park as an 8 year old. you would have to have like huge balls to do that stuff. some people do, like some kids do, and aloooot of people dont. im saying its natural.

im not saying that you or anyone else has confidence issues, my whole thing is that its more of a fear of the initial thing, the initial confronting of the fear, than it is about any prolonged exposure to a danger. fear is about danger, and when you perceive danger about speaking in public the danger is that you are going to look bad or say something wrong or whatever, right? so when you confront that fear the first time, and you do it, and you KNOW that you can do it, I think it becomes immediately easier.

Those are just my experiences with it, with being introverted and overcoming that fear myself. and again im not like trying to inspire you to go out and do this shit. im just sharing what i learned.

LC I sympathize. I've struggled with anxiety for a few years.
From my side of the spectrum public speaking anxiety never had anything to do with confidence or speaking with people. I've personally always been effective communicating with people.
For me it was always the "on display" part of it. I don't like drawing attention to myself, in fact I kind of hate it. While my job and art require standing infront of ppl and yapping, I still dislike the process to this day.
Sometimes it can come down to beliefs one has, past experiences and sometimes it can come from backburner issues that are creating the anxiety, rather than the actual activity of public speaking.

I use to play counter strike competitively in the top 2 leagues there ever were.

The last 3 seasons I got kind of bored of the whole scene and said fuck it, I'm gonna cheat and see if I can get away with it.

I payed for Organner which was an undetectable hack, even when scanned by league officials. If you were disputed in a match, they would watch your demos and look for any signs of cheating.

My first match I used it was a playoff match. We won, I got disputed, and passed

From then on I knew I could hack and get away with it, while being careful. Only used a wallhack, but it gave me such an advantage. Always knowing how to play the map correctly, and often times purposely making mistakes as to play it off.

Played my last 3 seasons cheating. lol.
