How to find a job?

I keep seeing guys here saying they are unemployed or unable to find meaningful good paying work.
Collectively we at Yahooka have thousands of years of experience in the getting (and losing) of jobs.
Offer up some advice people, help a brother out....for instance...
Get a first aid certificate to add to your resume. There are 1 and 3 day courses available and employment agencies will often pay the tuition. Most med. to big businesses require a first aid attendant trained person on site. If 500 people apply for a clerk position and one has 1st Aid...guess who gets the job.
Forklift courses and delivery drivers are also in demand and the training courses are relatively short in duration. Society consumes a lot of shit daily and there are thousands of people involved in product delivery.
Look around your town at all the apartment buildings and condo's. Who keeps them functioning? There are plumbers needed, HVAC guys , Elevator techs, building Maintenance men, electricians...etc. There are thousands of jobs available to those that have the training.
Hint- Elevator techs are trained "On The Job" and have no formal institutional training to start. Otis , Thiessen, Kone, etc are union companies that hire from the streets and after 4 year paid apprenticeships their guys make between 45-55 $ per hour. HVAC guys are right up there and electricians right behind.
Night school while slow , can get you were you need to be. Even interweb courses can help.
I don't want to see any more of this "I work for 10$ a hour" bullshit anymore.

Started as a tool fetcher for 10/hr.

4 years later nearly doubled. On overtime I'm nearly triple that original rate.

Worked hard and studied the trade in my off time, in the mean time learned to live below/within my means. Plus the only glass ceiling in this work is whatever I decide it to be. If I do side work its 70/hr minimum one hour of work. Still less than you'll pay a formal company. Even now the average age in my trade is like 55. Amazing demand for competent workers.

Went from delivering pizza to qualified in nearly every trade in that time, i'll never be unemployed. electrical, plumbing, metal work, carpentry, framing, electronics, hvac, rigging, heavy machinery, pushin niggas down fo skeedz, .8ing the east coast. It's amazing to have such a sense of security to know that I could lose my job and get another one the same day with just a phone call.

Slunt aint fakin the funk.

I also recommend IT stuff. Seems like a lot of people are able to skip college and land high paying jobs. Got to be really self motivated learner type though.

My cousin made 200 dollars the other day collecting discarded beer cans.
Now times that by 5, that's 1000 bucks a week.

Plus you get a good workout/ daily hiking experience.

Starting a small business of your own is easy if you do your research.
People are getting older and less flexible.
Folks that help them out by offering services in pressure washing, gardening, landscaping, cleaning, painting, moving etc. will always be in demand.
My buddy does pressure washing on weekends and cleans mold, moss and dirt off of sidewalks and siding. He handed out home made fliers to all the condo's and houses in the neighbourhood and gets a steady stream of calls to come clean something. At a min. 250$ for a job and 3-4 jobs a day he pulls in an extra 5-6 thousand monthly by working hard on weekends. You can buy a good pressure washer on credit and have it paid off before the first payment is due.

Bad luck and circumstances can create poverty...short term.
Continued poverty can be dealt with if you have the will to work, but procrastinating and laziness are personal issues that nobody but you can deal with.
Note to the younger generation....Facebo ok is a tool to be used to gain insight into a potential employees lifestyle. Most employers use it to cut through the bullshit and view the real person behind the resume.
Clean it up!

In other words, acquire skills. 99% of job advice is bullshit because it dances around the main point. You either have the skills or don't. Any socially retarded person can 'bomb' interviews and eventually get hired if they have the skills necessary and have proven it.

It's just that I'm a loser, slunt. I work for $10/hour because I'm depressed all the time and can't hold a regular job. Many hookans suffer this same predicament.

Me, for sure. Depression and self-doubt have been huge problems in my life. Fortunately, I'm getting some help from a good friend (Krunk) in getting my course righted, but it's taken half my life to come to grips with the issues that have been holding me back. Also, depression continues to be a problem.

I have found that, during my darker times, keeping faith in the fact that people around me care how I feel has helped the most in dealing with depression. And working through self-doubt is so much easier when you have someone or a few people you respect who believe in you.

I think SoK may not have the best network of supportive people around him, and that it's important for us, as his friends, to be that network when we can.

No. He is making the same bullshit excuses, and throwing around the same shit insults. Me "harshing" him does far less damage than you being an enabler to his shit talking, excuse making, pussy ass, feel sorry for himself, hate the world shit attitude.

Just as much as depression can be fog that a person can't see through, it can also be a crutch and a shield to get people to feel sorry for the individual and to continue to allow them to keep circling around the same patterns and habits that put them in their position in the first place. He is "depressed" because he sits around smoking pot, not working, not fostering any real interests or hobbies and not putting any real effort towards being a self-sustaining person. You can blame "depression" all you want, but it is just laziness.

The asshole doesn't need more coddling. He needs a firm kick in the ass and someone to show him that it is unacceptable to live the way that he does with the attitude he has.

I have depression and my job paid almost 20 bucks an hour plus benefits.

I wrecked that with alcohol but I can get it back if I want.

My depression is the worst when I sit and wallow in the depression which if I was out and proactive then it's not so bad.

Sometimes I'm crazy
Sometimes I'm normal
Sometimes I'm meh

So I'd say I'm pretty human.

The Rev

I could try to ignite a debate about how some people get screwed and others don't in the job market, but I'll leave it at the following. There is a fine line between what someone does for themself and what they don't have control over in being a competitive player in the job market today.

Very informative post Rev. I don't know if I do myself any good being open about this stuff. Some people have either accepted it or they don't talk about it. What I would do to go back in time knowing what I do now. A lot of shit changed in our economy from '99 to around 2005.

There is too much on my mind to continue.

You lose all credibility when you say I don't work. I've gone over this with you before. I work about 30 hours a week (it has gone down a little recently, not as many jobs coming in after summer) at a job you wouldn't be able to handle if your life depended on it. It's the same kind of brutal, old-fashioned work that very few people are suckers enough to take. Even a lot of the Mexicans out here don't want it because they can get jobs with the city that pay literally 3X as much with benefits and steady work.
