Joined the three job club the other day...

In addition to the college gig, the grop, I recently picked up some part time kitchen work in a buddies kitchen for the spring/summer. He was in desperate need for some assistance so I told him I could work a few mornings a week and help when they do events. It's nice to be able to flex these skills that had basically been unused for nearly a decade. Funny how quick I was right back in the flow of the day after so long out of a commercial kitchen.

I'm quitting my job in May to travel the world. I'm excited and terrified to be unemployed.

That sounds so very cool. I was fortunate to have done almost that when I was 18-24, but mine was strictly the USA & Mexico. Before I settled down with a family, a career, all the bullshit with responsibilities / bills / kids / bills / career / bills / respomsibilities. Did I mention responsibilities & bills??

I say, good for you, Ncc...you'll be completely glad you did this 20 yrs down the road from now. Bring either a pocket tape-recorder (do they still make those?) or a notebook & pen to write down your adventures & escapades you find yourself involved in. You won't regret it. I'm writing my memoirs from memory & I know I've forgotten a bunch that if I only would've jotted them down as it was happening, I'd be so much happier that I did.

Have fun...be safe...& God Bless!! You can't have a journey without 1st listening to this standard traveling song...

Funny Zolty, me and you both did the Mexico traveling thing, I spent 3 months there when I was 18. Left in February, hit Mardi Gras then to Mexico where I spent a month in Tempozlan( about an hour south of Mexico city) and took trains and busses to Veracruz then to Merida in the Yucatan Peninsula, where I spent Easter... Good memories, lost my journal but a lot of the trip is still in my mind...

I never got into "seeing" anything. It's just a fleeting moment that ends up being part of the whole garbled mess that is life. Enjoy your trip.

Man, that is too cool!! When were you there? My buddy & I were there in '73. A train to Guadalajara from Nogales was $25 1-way each. Took 4 days, as it stopped in (from what I can recall...we went down the Pacific Coast for awhile) Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, some other small villages where a kid would get on the train with a metal pail & walk up & down the aisles shouting, "Tamales y Lotos!!" (or something like that). Played poker with 2 Mexicans as the train started further inland to Guadalajara.

Then we took a bus to Mexico City, which is probably the biggest dirtiest city I've been to. All the cabs were VW Bugs with the passenger seat taken out, so they can zip around traffic. Weren't there too long when we took another bus to Taxco(?...I swore the driver was going to flip the bus over some of those mountain roads) & then ventured to Acapulco.

Scored some killer A-Gold that was rolled up in a newspaper. Watched those cliff divers, who are out-of-their-minds, imho., which was a blast as we were blasted on the Gold. Mexico is / was a very nice Country to see, but I did prefer the Pacific side as opposed to the Gulf side. Pacific = no humidity. Gulf & thru the jungles = Amazon rainforest humid.

Good times, no doubt about it!!

Did the cab drivers in Acapulco try and slang you tickets to strip clubs?

Got the Co-op placement of my dreams for this summer all lined up!

Lets see:

Fullfills co-op requirements and my profs are all impressed and stuff.
Located near my folks place, which is where I wanted to stay for a rent free summer.
Where I would like to work after my diploma is done next year; foot in the door.
10 minute drive to work, 8-4 (good hours IMO)
Exactly the sort of field I want to be in, not just the right industry, but precisely the right stuff.
I'll have at least two friends I already know working with me.
Met the full time staff, seem kool.
Union
Benefits
The most I've ever been payed by far!

Fuckin' pumped. Wanted this for about a year.

I gotta say, that is 1 depressing statement...

It's not about 'seeing' stuff. It's being fresh out of high-school...no real-life situations far from home...plus you meet new people from different areas. It's pretty interesting when your life before this was, basically, school / fun / home. Then it's meet new people, fend for yourself (we were 18, kids), check out different scenes in different cities. It's not being a tourist type deal. It's standing on an Interstate ramp with a cardboard sign & seeing who the next person will be who gives you a lift.

Nah, we didn't take cabs in Acapulco. It's more of a walk-around town. We were in Mexico City for about 12 hrs, & we just hoofed it. Their cabs are weird-looking though. We went to the bars in Nogales usually, as I was staying in Tucson.
