Parenthood

How has parenthood changed you over the years? Do you like the changes? Did you expect them?

If you're not a parent yet, what changes do you expect to happen? Do you want kids, how many, when etc.

Best reason to have kids? Grandkids!!

Grandkids allow you to finally treat children the way you really want: with the reckless and irresponsible love. None of that responsible shit, anymore!

When I had kids I wasn't ready obviously..
I have 4 and they are great kids.

They bring out the kid in me..
They taught me unconditional love.
They don't judge me.
They are my best friends.
They helped me become a responsible sober adult.
They keep me open minded.
They keep me learning.
Thinking..
Scared..
Excited..
Happy..
Sad.,
Frustrated..
Tired..

They are awesome I can't imagine what my life was like before they existed.

They are like little science experiments and I'm watching them metamorphasize.

Very cool.

Rev's right. It made me way more responsible. And then there's that setting an example crap. It was not so bad, because it's all about the love and care of your child.

Now that I'm a grandma, there's so much stuff I don't care too much about anymore. I know I'm spoiling them and I don't give a fuck. "You ain't grounded at Oma's".

It's like it's come full circle.

Not sure what changes to expect, but some of the things I feel I would need to do to be a decent parent scare me (the selflessness etc).

Two kids. Not more because they are expensive, not less because single children miss out in my opinion. Also with two your basically just stabilizing the population, not adding or subtracting from it.

Hm, I'm not sure how others feel about it, but having something in your life that always comes before you is actually very grounding.

In general, having responsibilities is what anchors me.

Of course I have a different sort of parenthood with shared custody.

I like what Lewis CK said about it though -- how he ends up being a better father because he has this time to just be a piece of shit for a while, and then when his daughters are with him, the other stuff is out of his system and he can devote himself to the kids.

I don't think I need to be 'a piece of shit' as he says, but I am given these stretches of time where it's just me and I think that is beneficial.

I should say, it scares me, but I think it would be wholly beneficial. I just want to do it right.

Youre probably champion league pawpaw.

I bet all your trolldad instincts have been awoken like when indiana jones removed the idol and let loose the traps of the ancients.

I did my best to corrupt my kids (you know, encourage them to think for themselves, question authority, all that) but my wisdom is greater now. I was Grownup the Grey back then. Now, I'm Grownup the White. My granddaughters will be questioning Existence itself before they graduate from 6th grade.

I look forward to having grand-kids so I can overload them with candy and racism.

I don't have any kids. I was thinking about starting a family when I grow up. Maybe 70.

when phone salesmen call our house we give the phone to the 4 year old grand daughter and tell her it's Santa calling. The long rambling disjointed never ending sentences are hilarious.

When I was a kid, I used to tell my friends I wanted to have 3 (cuz 3 is my lucky number) and I wanted to have them at the same time (triplets). Now I look back and realized that sounded pretty stupid.

Now I think about having 1 so that my future husband and I can focus all of our attention on that one kid. I don't want to go through favoritism, sibling rivalry bullshit.

I'm going to need to have more than one kid, because the first one is going to be a trial run. Version 2.0 will be a lot better.

kids mean that you can't be selfish anymore, not if you want to do things properly at least.
