Still haven't seen any help from our allies and neighbours. The whole country is pulling together massively though and that's all that truly matters.

I think the sentiment is justified ^, but making a fuss over it when we're a developed first world nation is not very graceful. Makes us seem less deserving. Concentrating on taking care of ourselves now and that sort of stuff later.

80k displaced I think.

My thoughts are with you Canada. No prayers though. It's his plan.

3 of my brother in laws work in Fort Mac. Two had to flee north into the North West Territories, leave their trucks behind in Hay River and fly out over the fire back down to Calgary.
The third B.I.L .was trapped in town with several dozen people who took refuge in a concrete Safeway store surrounded by Parking lot as the town burned all around them. They were there for over a day before being rescued by RCMP helicopters.
Wonder when the big oil companies will use this as an excuse to raise the price of gas?

Katrina was massive.. killed over a thousand people, over a hundred billion in damage, over 230000 square km of affected land - it was a disaster many times more severe than this.

The Chilean earthquake, over 500 dead, twice the property damage as estimated in fort mac (and this is adjusted dollars from chile, where property is cheaper... ie over 300 000 homes were damaged or destroyed.. compared with fort mac's less than 2000)... plus it's fucking Chile. Their economy is already fucked and their infrastructure not nearly as good as ours.

This situation is Canada being like.. yo we got this. Shitty arguments like those in that infographic make us look bad.

Canadians have raised around 30 million so far I've heard on our own.

That's a lot in a short amount of time.

WestJet flew people out of the fire zone for free including their pets.

People are buying gas water and the necessities of life with their own money and giving it for free to stranded motorists who left the city with only what they could put in their cars mostly the clothes on their backs.

It's amazing.

its not because of climate change its because the forests have been prevented from burning down on their natural cycle for too long. for many years the policy/goal was to stop any fire before it burned for a certain time (i think 12 hours ?) or a certain area (i think 4 sq km). all of albertas forests are naturally supposed to burn down at a certain age but they have become much older than they would have otherwise, increasing the risk of catastrophic fires, much like slave lake.

making this into a political issue is retarded. nobody is responsible and other nations will come to help eventually when requested. its important to remember the only organization that has any real ability to deliver aid in these (or any) situation is red cross.

do not donate stupid stuff. donating anything that isn't cash probably isnt helpful unless you are giving it to a person who was evacuated.
