Question HID Bulb question. (not your typical type of ???)

Grow room is 11'x 40" I just lined the whole thing with Mylar (what a great purchase!) Currently I have 2, 400W Sunmaster Metal Halide bulbs (Base up model.) and a linear light mover. The homemade reflector (flat) is 37"x37" and lined with Mylar too. Each bulb is centered one way and 13" in from the other 2 sides. I rewired the lights so the ballast is in a seperate area.

I was reasearching and found that a light burning in a horizontal position was better for light output.

My question is: the light says it can be lit in a horizontal fashon but there will be a 10% reduction in lumen output (reduction=4000 lumens lost/bulb)

Will the fact of running the light horizontal make up more of a difference than the 10% loss of lumens? Or do you think it will just even itself out. Didn't want to remount the sockets and such if it is not really worth the while. Pretty busy right now caring for my ladies.

Thanks for any input or suggestions,

the "Mad Scientist/Botanist"-hydroman

the "primary coverage" for a single 400 watt halide burning in either position is 5 feet in diameter. since you have 40 inches and 800 watts total, i would leave it vertical and take advantage of the lumens.

hydro, do you post on hemp cultivation.com also? cuz i see your name everywhere. that is an interesting concept the got going there. if those lights work, hell yess, one of them will be mine. so these lights arent ran by electricity? correct? if so, how do they get powered? i think i missed something here. if so, are they expensive to run?

dopie opie - you missed the whole concept I was asking about. My grow room is 40inches wide and 11 foot long. That is why I have the light mover. to move the light back and forth along the 11 ft.

What I am asking is will the light intensity be better running the bulbs horizontal even though there will be a 10% loss of lumen output?

dalorean - No, that is not me. the ONLY place I post at is YaHooka!

sorry, i missed the mover. however,60" is prime coverage and you only have 40" surrounded with mylar. 37" reflector so no real light lost as it travels, i would still go with lumens. i know your trying to tweak it, but i think your splitting hairs. sounds like a GREAT SETUP though. i've been wanting to get some mylar myself. has to be bright as hell in there now.
