WTF Drivers

Im getting a little P.O'd with the constant shitty drivers on our roads. WTF people. Vancouver has been voted the most congested traffic in North America and if there was a second vote for shittiest drivers...they'd win that too.
Slow drivers, bad mergers, signal light on for 40 kms...what's your beef and how come nobody drives as good as me :cuss:

Don't sweat the petty things, pet the sweaty things...

I think everyone has an idea in their head of how your supposed to drive 'properly' and because the whole thing is dependent on everyone following the rules, when people break the rules (real laws or perceived norms) it ticks us off. Its so easy to get mad while driving.

Also immigrants. People who grow up not driving, or driving in another country (say, one without snow) where the process is different. Studies have shown that you 'learn to drive' by watching your parents well before you ever learn to drive, and new comers who haven't been driving have a disadvantage that is passed onto their kids.

But there are a lot of shitty drivers in general, including natives. Including some of my friends  PSA: When your doing 120km, safety suggests leaving more than half a car length from the guy in front of you. More like 5.

^ That is one thing that does annoy me on the highway

turmaline 10-29-2016 02:43 PM

I'm white and you can call me racist. It you are in Vancouver and there are a shit load of Chinese people there and fuck anyone who says they don't drive bad.

stoneric 10-29-2016 03:48 PM

I wouldn't call that racism. Old fuckers are shitty drivers too and I wouldn't call that ageism.

turmaline 10-29-2016 04:16 PM

Texting and driving is brutal now a days..

I can't tell who's drunk driving and who's texting.

Ive tried to report a couple people and also yelled at drivers, as a passenger in a vehicle being driven by a texter who almost rear ended another vehicle.

textism

New Jersey is actually a really interesting case for traffic trends and driving skills.

The whole state is very very densely populated, and just about everyone has a car as its necessary cause public transport is shit. Therefor that means there are a tremendous amount of cars on the road constantly. Add in rush hour and all the people that commute to NYC and Philly... It gets insane.

Yet somehow traffic isnt that bad 90% of the time. Nothing close to what i see/hear on the west coast. Everything runs fairly smoothly.

Takes getting used to though, and can be annoying. Everyone drives as though they are about to miss a flight and also quite aggressively.
Just like everywhere else we have assholes and ild people and other shitty wtf drivers, but it all ultimately flows pretty well. On the hughway it us basically heavy traffic, but everyone's doing 80 so it flows lol.

That said, i think even the worst NJ drivers are leagues better than drivers in other areas of the world/country.

fenderbender 10-29-2016 04:35 PM

Also after visiting thailand i gained a whole new understanding of crazy wtf driving lol. It is absolute chaos lol.

turmaline 10-29-2016 04:46 PM

I've almost been hit twice by orientals driving the wrong way on the highway.

Scary stuff!!

Two separate incidences.

The more densely populated the better the drivers. You die otherwise.

now lets throw in the death wish pedestrians crossing the road while looking at their cell phones as the "DONT WALK" sign flashes

In Vancouver that would be 20 people crossing plus a bus trying to turn left.
Perfect example this morning...Im driving down a rural road leading to the big shitty of Vancouver. Im the only driver on the road as far as the eye can see. Suddenly 100 feet in front of me a guy pulls out on the road and proceeds to do 2/3 of the speed limit.
WTF!!!!! :cuss: why couldn't he just wait 3 seconds and pull out slowly and drive slowly after the speeding truck went by???:very confused:
I passed him and looked at him and it was an old Asian dude wearing a ball cap with a death grip on the steering wheel, chin about an inch from the steering wheel.
In the city I met up with 10,000 of his best friends. I could have walked faster on my ass cheeks than traffic moves downtown.

The Rev 10-30-2016 11:19 AM

I can handle bad driving so long as 1)they don't do anything that immediately threatens my life or car, and 2)they don't download a bunch of hostility on me. I hate people who scream, "Fuck you!!!" through their horn because they don't realize they were the one that just made the mistake.

Also, as a bike commuter, I can attest to the hostility of drivers, generally. Woe be to he who dares cause a moment's inconvenience to today's motorist, or even a perceived inconvenience. I can't tell you how many cars have zoomed past me within inches of hitting me because, "Fuck that guy for riding a bike where I want to drive."

Personally, after riding a bike to work for over a year, I am convinced that our highest value in Western Culture isn't love, or money, or fame. It's convenience. No one loses their shit more than the inconvenienced.

A road I drive once a week or so = not busy @ 10:00 am, 6 lanes divided, 55 mph speed limit, in a pack, everyone going 40-45 mph or everyone going 65-70 mph, no good reason, just some idiots setting the pace.

To me this all depends on where the biker's biking.

Here there are bike or bike+bus lanes on most of the more major roads, and if there aren't, there's usually a smaller road running parallel to it that does have one.

But there are are a few poorly designed roads that serve as major thoroughfare and have no bike lane whatsoever - and it is on these roads that I can not stand people biking on. Especially during rush hour.

It's dangerous and fucking stupid for them to be doing it - you'll be driving along going the speed limit all of a sudden round the bend and there's a biker in the middle of the lane cuz there's no where else for him to be, and there's no way to get past him because it's rush hour so the left lane is a clusterfuck, so you're hitting the breaks and slowed to a crawl behind this fool.

So you have all these people trying to squeeze by, trying extra hard to change lanes, all to get around this bottleneck that for some reason is unwilling to move their commute down to the parallel street WHERE THEY'D BE GOING JUST AS FAST CUZ THEY'RE ON A BIKE AND THEY CAN'T REACH THE RESIDENTIAL SPEED LIMIT ANYWAYS -- and you can't really fault the drivers for needing to do this cuz they need to get to work on time and they didn't factor in having to go 25km/h behind fuck for brains over here on a major thoroughfare who has a look in their face like 'deal with it i'm a vehicle too.'

You're not a vehicle, you're a bicycle and you're making things more dangerous than they need to be for no reason at all other than you're a dumb cunt who didn't even think about the bike friendly road LITERALLY TWO BLOCKS OVER THAT I KNOW FOR A FACT EXTENDS ALL THE WAY TO THE GOD DAMN OCEAN. ASSHOLE!

This has happened more than once on a particular road.

Since it would cost ungodly amounts of money to widen the road up - and I can't get mad at lack of foresight - I am left with no choice but to rage at the biker who is either unwilling, or too stupid, to realize the alternative that is better for everyone.

Now I am sure you're talking about asshole drivers being asshole drivers - but your post made me think of asshole bikers being asshole bikers and I had to vent lol

slunt 11-06-2016 08:26 AM

In my neighbourhood the road twists and dips all over and is 2 single lanes wide. There is a 2 way bike lane on one side BUT!!!! all the assholes going the other way drive with their backs to traffic instead of using it. Drivers then compound the mistake by "Sharing" the oncoming lane as they go around these dipshits.
You have the "RIGHT" to use the right lane if you wish to push the letter of the law but it would be safer for everyone if you used the designated bike lane on the one side.
Around here it is known as being "DEAD RIGHT"
