As much of a dick thing to say... This place helped keep me off hard drugs, reading some of the first hand accounts and talking to those that were dealing with some pretty heavy baggage helped keep my eyes open to the dangers of irresponsible use.

Outside of that I quote my favorite band "I'm the same as I was when I was 6 years old
And oh my God I feel so damn old". The more that changes, the more stays the same.

Ok, the cheesy answer...

Although I feel I'm still basically the same person, I feel I have made subtle changes because of my respect for my people here.

How could I not? I love you and you say something. It makes me want to be more informed about what you're saying. I learn and grow from it.

Even when I disagree.

Well, one thing would be my hairs.

When I joined, in 2000, I shaved my hair down, no attachment, as I had since 4th grade, and kept an almost as a tight beard, since I started growing facial hair.

Now well... You know.

Dude. 2006 me could not even begin to fathom 2017 me. Probably wouldn't recognize him off the street. In more ways good than not, I think.

- Recent high school grad to recent grad school grad
- Living in not-so-nice neighborhood to living in a really great part of town
- Tending bar and busing tables to respectable office gig with potential for growth
- Hating life after breaking off long distance relationship with clingy h.s. sweetheart to living with awesome woman who's independent, supportive, and fkn FOINE
- Smoking a pack of cigs a day at 225lbs to running marathons and a trim buck seventy

In high school for senior superlative I was voted most changed from freshman year. I think I'd probably defend my title if Yahooka held a vote today.

Shit. Thanks for this thread, it was fun to think about.

I learned that snuggles and hugs are more valuable than impeccable street cred

But really that question is too hard. 15ish years of changes.. Makes my head hurt

Definitely a big question....

I'll say experience and travel for this posts changes,
As they relate directly to.YaHooka.

In the nearly seventeen years I've Yabooka'd from:
10 addresses in
10 different cities
2 countries
2 States
4 Provinces
(Not including travel check-ins)

I've met at least 16 Yahookans face to face,
All over the USA and Canada,
some where I've stopped by,
some expressly to see them,
some out of necessity,
for one off meet ups,
time to time drop in,
and for visiting for a few days.

Always do the "One Time Things". You can always work tomorrow but you cant go see a wedding again or a party or a football game etc. Once they are gone they are gone forever...as you grow older "one time events" become rarer and rarer...but work is still there.

Never miss any event held by your children because of work.

Yep, like I used to tell folks I worked with that wanted overtime, ALL the time. When I am old, and sitting on my front porch in my rocking chair, I will be thinking of all the things I was doing, while you were working, and that money is long gone and means nothing.

I feel like being a perverted raving lunatic is a right of passage here at yahooka. At least for your first 5 years or so. Then youre alowed to mellow out a bit.

You and my wife would get along. She takes absolutely no shit from anyone, including me, and her glare has been accused of causing loose bowel syndrome. She is deeply empathetic and a healer but has a no tolerance policy with assholes or liars.
It can be rather entertaining watching her in action.

Another thing I've learned is...give your friends a pass. Everyone fucks up once in a while. The people who watch your back must be forgiven for being dumb fucks. It's the price of their friendship.
Outside Family does not get that pass. Its not your fault and you had no say in your Uncle marrying your aunt and producing the "Evil Twins.
