I remember I got banned because a mod said I did something that I didn't do.

That pissed me off an awful lot.

But the real reason no one comes here anymore is because you scared everyone away with your foot jimmy

The whole censorship argument is such a crock of shit.

Look at bigger trends across the internet. Very few forums like this one are still prospering in 2018. Social media ate into a big percentage of the "specialized knowledge" base. Myspace, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, etc have all had a moment where they became large hubs of traffic for the internet as a whole. Even those platforms caved to "censorship" in that they removed/banned/ghosted problematic posts/threads/forums and yet they still remain(ed) major hubs.

One could stand to think that the reason we have the membership we do "family, long-term, 10+ yr" is that we had closed registration for pockets of time in which we should have been building our base instead of pushing them to other resources.

I believe that when we lost our voice as a pot forum and evolved to a /b/, misc, ffa stlye it torpedo'ed the chance for new membership because there were places on the internet to talk shit with anonymity way easier and with way less barrier of entry than here where winning flame wars usually fell to those with the larger post count/ join date.

The major driving factor is that we never leaned into either side with any real conviction. One side would be all for the pivot back to pot and activism while the other would be all for "muh free speech, let's be /b/" which would prompt squabbling which would wear down whoever was trying to take any kind of real responsibility. We never forged an identity which made other people want to join up. Why would a grower/activist join only to be trolled by the "bois" and why would a potential troll join up to roast when there were already 20-50 people doing it better than they ever could.

The FFAing of the board killed yahooka, not because of the content of the posts, but because it turned the forums from a "hub" where people wouldn't really cross pollinate too much into a "pull up your belt and show your merit in FFA before we listen to what you have to say". There isn't much incentive for someone who needs to know what kind of fertilizer to use to stay around when all the answers are riffs on the person's user name and various shades of "come back when you aren't a n00b". When we lost those members who could actually offer practical advice (budhead, lunaria, sureshot on growing, ellis, jimmy, etc on harm reduction) we lost any hope of fostering and maintaing new user base.

It really is a classic case of "nobody wins". The side that fought for reason, was always going to grow up and without a next "generation" to carry on their way of knowledge sharing they died out slowly and without fanfare. The side that fought for "freedom", was never going to have their whole hearts into the fight, they just were fighting to fight, for the engagement, not for the prize. They always had their home elsewhere and only used this place for raids, and to supplement their entertainment, not to sustain it. Much like the first group, they had no one to pass their ways onto so over time they have kind of just faded into the tapestry of the mythos of a bygone era where "shitposting was real man, you could die a thousand deaths on the edge me and my boi's had".

What the future holds? Perhaps those of us that have made friends outside of the forum continue to be that. While the rest of us post here until the enviable day that the plug is pulled. All I can really say beyond this shitty rant is "Thank you everyone who comes here still and posts, and sorry to all those who come here and see an abandoned high school, a place lost to memories, and that we cannot be what you felt like you had all those years ago."

So what you're saying is I alone killed Yahooka, with all my deceiving ways? You really got me where it hurt, Grieves. Y U holding such onto such a hate on for me.

One thing that didn't help the growing part of the forum is the database fuck up that moved everything into the Admin forum. We tried and tried, but never managed to get things back where they all needed to go... There was just too many posts to sort, and there wasn't a proper backup or restore point sadly.

I work a lot, and despite the idea I'm cooking up plans to put mind control on you all, I only find the time to stop in a read now and again. Plus a fair amount of us stay in touch on social media.
