OK, im new at growing, infact ive havent grown ANYTHING in my whole life, but as im sure you've read a thousands time im getting sick of the outrages prices. Well anyway, here's my situation, ive already figured out a space, my landlord said he'll rent out the basement to me, and he'll help get everything put up and such (incase you havent figured it out he's in on this too), and we've decided just to do the ol soil method instead of the hydroponics system, and money isnt much of an issue, however the power bill cant be outragous or else my landlord will just get rid of anything because he's really paraniod, so i guess ill cut to the chase here, does anyone know of high power light that would benifit an indica strain but wont show up too much on the power bill, ive been looking into them but cant really find any that comes out says that, any advice would be more than appreciated.

i found mixing activated charcoal in the soil did very little about the smell but a lot to the taste... very bland smoke. it's not a way to eliminate smell, just to lessen, and in most cases this probably is no use and still needs a carbon filter or ozone generator to eliminate smell... so why suck the taste out of your plants by putting charcoal in the soil. hmm, i'm not dissing kingmidas or his advice, that guy helped me pick out lights. power!
as for the lights it depends how much you want to grow... but you really want to use HID lights if you want nice buds, that much is a given. anything under a 1000 watts shouldn't attract too much attention but you'll know about it when you get the electricity bill, if that's what you mean. your real problem is to check if the basement has air conditioning/ air intakes or some form of air exchange with the outside world. else you're gonna have to install it which is a beeatch. |

I'm not dissing the guy either but I don't believe that charcoal in the soil is going to sort the odour problem out.
If you want to eliminate odour then put an ozone generator or similar odour nutralising device in the room leading onto your growroom, not the growroom itself as this can affect the plants themselves. If you do have to install extraction from the basement then get an odour nutralising charcoal filter which will take out the smell as it hits the street. I may be wrong but I think that old chappy-trousers meant putting charcoal around the plants, not actually in the soil? I use a 600W HPS light which costs about £0.75 a day (a dollar?) but that includes some fluros for veg too so maybe $0.50 a day for just a 600W HPS. As the previous post said, anything under 1000W wont attract attention but it is going to cost you. I always remember that in the long run it's saving my a small fortune to grow my own. I'm not interested in growing for profit so I can grow enough under 1 600W HPS light. Interestingly, my first crop under 1 600W light is set to produce a years supply of grass for 2 people more than adequately. |
