Post UK NEWS FLASH - 3rd MEP to be arrested!

MARCO PANNELLA leader of the Italian radical party has announced that he will hand himself in at Stockport police station at 4pm on Monday 28th January – in possession of cannabis!

This will be the THRID Member of the European Parliament (MEP) to be arrested in support of the UK’s first cannabis café, its co-founder Colin Davies who remains on remand at Strangeways prison, and the campaign to legalise cannabis – across Europe!

The other two MEPs are due in court on Tuesday 29th January and Marco Pannella intends to be arrested the day before, so he can join them in court the next day.

About 20 cases are due to be heard (inc. my own) on what is being billed as ‘C! Day’, with everyone opting for trial by jury at Crown Court – a grand total of 31 Crown Court cases resulting from raids on the café, or protests against the raids, are lined up – at an estimated cost of £10,000 per case.

Therefore about £310,000 wasted, following three raids in five months – yet the café has not been closed for more than a few hours at a time!

There are further arrests planned for C! Day, with supporters arriving from Holland, Italy and France to show their support!

Stockport is truly the focal point of the EUROPEAN campaign to free the weed!

Background information: Radical Party members have taken part in many civil disobedience actions on drugs since 1965. In 1975, Marco Pannella, radical leader and MEP, was arrested after self-incrimination for smoking a cannabis joint. From prison, he led a campaign to persuade the Italian Parliament to de-criminalize drug consumption. During the '80s and '90s various radicals were arrested and convicted for civil disobedience on drugs.

In 1989 the Transnational Radical Party founded the International Anti-prohibitionist League. In 1993 Emma Bonino, the radical leader who shortly after became an EU Commissioner, was arrested in New York for distributing sterile needles to protect addict from blood poisoning. In 1995 six radicals were arrested in Rome for free delivering of hashish to the public; while in the same year, Pannella hands out 200 grams of hashish as a "gift" to the anchorman of a live TV-show. Many party members have since repeated the civil disobedience action of self-incrimination for hashish delivering. In 1997 the Transnational Radical Party was a co-sponsor of the international anti-prohibition march in London. Currently, there are 35 radical (among them 4 MEP, 2 French citizens and 4 Belgians) under trial for related civil disobedience actions.

On the 23rd of January, the Appeal Court of Rome has confirmed a 4 months imprisonment sentence for 4 Radical activists, among whom Marco Pannella; they have asked to the Court to immediately execute the sentence instead of converting it into alternative sanctions.

Manchester Police
confirm they will
arrest the 3rd MEP
Filed 3pm Monday 28th January 2002
(MEP due to hand himself in at 4pm)

Greater Manchester Police say they will arrest an Italian MEP scheduled to arrive at Stockport police station with cannabis.

Marco Pannella, leader of the Transnational Radical Party, is expected to hand himself in as a protest.

His party is supporting a campaign against the prohibition of cannabis.

He will be the third MEP to be arrested over the drug by Stockport police since December.

Liberal Democrat MEP Chris Davies was arrested for cannabis possession during a protest march in December. Days later another Italian MEP, Marco Cappato, was arrested outside Stockport police station.

A police spokeswoman says Mr Pannella will be arrested if he turns up with cannabis in his possession.

"This is the third time an MEP will have turned up and in the other two instances, they have been arrested," added the spokeswoman.

Mr Davies and Mr Cappato are due to appear in Magistrates Court for committal proceedings.

Their protests were sparked by the November arrest of Colin Davies, the owner of the UK's first Dutch-style cannabis cafe in Stockport.

All three MEPs are supporting Mr Davies, no relation to the Liberal Democrat MEP, who is being held in Strangeways Prison.

It's believed Mr Pannella will refuse bail after his arrest and will seek a bail hearing at the same time as the committal hearings for Colin Davies and his two MEP colleagues.

Manchester Police
REFUSED
to arrest an MEP
in possession of
cannabis!
One law for us - one law for them?
Ian, one of the Dutch Experience crew, reports on the 3rd

Ian, webmaster of the Dutch Experience, reports on the 3rd MEP’s attempt to be arrested:

WE HAVE A RESULT!
The Stockport Police appear to have given up!

About 25 of us stood outside Stockport police station, whilst Marco Pannella gave a press statement, not a copper in sight.

In the end he had to go into the station to be arrested, as nobody would come out at all, so along with about 15 folk, loads of cameras he went in. The police quickly kicked all the cameras out, then proceeded to do something strange.

They confiscated Marco's weed, gave him a receipt for it and told him it was not in the public interest to arrest him, does this mean that the Lambeth Scheme has been extended to Stockport, since when could the police decide on matters of public interest?
They have a certain degree of leeway on cannabis, but they stated in the past that when challenged with overtly illegal behaviour they would enforce the law to the full, not this time not even a caution just a bit of paper saying we have nicked your weed.

This is a result and the precedent it sets remains to be seen!
What a good warm up for tomorrow (C! Day) what are they gonna do ?

Latest report;

Annova.com report on Marco Pannella
Italian MEP not arrested for cannabis possession

An Italian MEP hoping to be arrested by Stockport police for cannabis possession has been sent away after refusing a caution.

Marco Pannella, the leader of the Transnational Radical Party, was in the city to protest against the prohibition of cannabis.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman told Ananova a small quantity of a substance was confiscated and Mr Pannella was turned away.

Two other MEPs, Liberal Democrat Chris Davies and Italian Marco Cappato, were arrested and charged with possession of cannabis in December. Both are due in magistrates court in the city tomorrow.

The police spokeswoman said officers have the power to caution those in possession of small amounts of the drug and said the officer concerned used his discretion in dealing with 71-year-old Mr Pannella.

But Chris Davies claimed the failure to arrest his parliamentary colleague marked a change in policy from the Greater Manchester force. "For those people campaigning for a change in cannabis legislation, this is a significant victory," he said.

However, the GMP spokeswoman said the decision doesn't alter their commitment to tackling drug abuse. "The interests of the people of Greater Manchester would be better served with police resources being deployed to tackle crime and disorder within the community rather than being squandered becoming embroiled in political debates," added a police statement.

A Home Office spokesman told Ananova cannabis possession is illegal but said it was up to Chief Constables and their officers to interpret the law. He said there are no proposals to legalise the drug but said the Advisory Council for the Misuse of Drugs is considering a proposal to reclassify cannabis as a Class C substance.

That would mean possession of cannabis for personal use would become a non-arrestable offence.

Fucking 5 am here, got to be in court at ten, and I can't sleep, and I'm fucked. So here's a Stockport court story a local ex-biker told me in the DE. Quaint British law, that's all...his ex-wife had him in court over the custody of a child, when he hasn't seen her for a year, let alone fucked her. The judge says "What is your interest in this child?" Guy says "No fucking interest, you can drown it in a bucket for all I care." Judge fined him £25 for contempt of court and "showing disregard for human life." Fuck 'em, we are SMOKIN' today....

Look how pathetically pleased I am because someone mentions my name...hey, American bloke, you hear about this kind of shit...I could come over and fuck about in your pool, and you could come and look at my neighbour's dogshit collection. Good dope here...Powerplant is responsible for this crap. For information, please go to the forum at www. dutchexperiene.org, or talk to Spliffy. He can ask me.
