We've all heard those blasphemous covers. Versions of great songs that make you want to light candles beneath the feet of those who defiled them.
So let's hear what songs people think are better than the originals? ------------------ "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows" --Bob Dylan ---The wisdom of the East, the energy of the West. This is the Way.--- |

My Favorite cover song is Led Zeppelin's cover of Willie Dixon's "You Shook Me" w/ the organ solo, during their BBC Sessions. That whole album is the THE best. The first disk has alot of Heavy stuff especially both performances of "You shook me" "I can't quit you babe" Its a double disk But I recommend geting this one if its the only Zeppelin Disc you buy. Which isn't the case for me. God you gotta love those slow heavy droning Blues when you stoned. |

There are too many great covers to name (Nirvana's unplugged cover of David Bowie's The Man who Sold with World is by far the greatest single cover of a song ever)...
Someone just gave me a CD of Marylin Manson covering both The Doors (Five to One) and John Lennon (Working Class hero), I cannot fucking wait to go home and hear this...I love Marylin Manson, I have faith he won't butcher the songs, hope I am not upset ![]() But.... I think there is one exceptional album that really needs a mention, everytime I play for a friend, they steal from me ![]() "I Wish I was a Carpenter" is a full cover album of all songs by the Carpenters, by bands like Sonic Youth, Shonen Knife, The Cranberries (Who do an amazing cover of "Why do birds suddenly appear") Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Carpenters too, but every single cover on this album somehow manages to capture the magic of the actual song and add to it, it's amazing... And even if you aren't into the Carpenters themselves (They are definitley an accquired taste unless you are over 40 or really into easy listening adult contemporary romance songs or something) you will probably like this CD. Personally, I never even gave the Carpenters a fucking chance (but then again, I was born in the 80's I don't have too ) but after listening to that album I started listening to the original songs, and I was really impressed, at their core the songs are really good...So even though most of you prob won't like the fucking Carpenters, you will probably love this cover album, I highly suggest it... ------------------ Lying on the stained wretched sheets with a bleeding virgin we could plan a murder or start a religion.... |

Rage Against the Machine's cover of "Maggie's Farm" by dylan, 311's cover of 'Leaving Babylon' When nirvana did 'The man who sold the world' like the other guy said. System of a Down covered floyd's goodbye blue sky. And i think manson's cover of Soft Cell's 'Tainted Love' is cool.

dude how can anyone even think of doing a micheal jackson hit like smooth criminal..especially a band like alien ant farm..and i think that rages cover of maggies farm was nothing special..it was alright..nothing compared to the original..i think the only person to respectfully cover a dylan song is hendrix..oh yeah and guns n roses..i love their version of knocking on heavens door...also i love the song gloria by them..but i think the doors version is better..and yet i think the patti smith version is even better..i cant think of anything else right now..

Bacon and Dr. Feelgood....i've always likes Me First, and think they do awesome versions of any cover song they do.
GirlsHateMe......."t oo many stupid people like em cus they're 'punk rock'".....i'm not stupid, nor do i like them because they are 'punk rock'. i like them because they sound good, and they are made up of performers from bands i like. plus, i liked them before they became well know, which in all honesty, they still arent very known to anyone. Brainrape.....i like all of the covers Manson has done. "sweet Dreams", "5 to 1" kicks ass, and i LOVE his version of "Tainted Love". there are alot of good cover songs out there, but those are the main ones. oh yeah, Type O Negative's "cinnamongirl" and "summer breeze" are alright too. |

Hey GirlsHateMe: I wouldn't necessarily classify Alien Ant Farm as 'punk rock'. If for no other reason, because their songs are almost twice as long as regular punk songs. They sound heavy and they're not bitching,(no offence to punkers) which is very un-punkish. And here in denver, they're at a show in a few days that is produced and promoted by KBPI, the biggest hardrock station in this state. Oh yeah, System of a Down is headlining, and then comes Sevendust, and Hoobastank opens. Not a very punk playbill, now, is it?
Go ahead, call me crazy, but i don't think AAF is punk..

Deep in the heart of Free For All I have found a thread that I would ask you all to breath a little life into. Please.
Or you could be a fag. ![]() So, some good ones. Cinnamon Girl-Type O Negative-play that one LOUD. Stayin' Alive-Ozzy with Dweezil Zappa. It works so well. Hurt-Johnny Cash-there are many other ideas that are worse than adding this to your song farm as a guitar player. Cat Scratch Fever-Pantera-Ted Nugent hates it. I like it. La Bamba-Los Lobos-1st generation Rock and Roll tracked in the 80's and still gets regular airplay on the radio. And the guitar solo-perfect for a hot single coil, man. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) SRV-I think this is a 'Facemelter' of a song. Really a fine representation of the sizzling bite and rich bell tones a Stratocaster can bring.
