ah punk, i'll never say you're dead, but your incompetent bastard children sure make me think so. it'd be great if some nice old, angry roots punk emerged again.

i guess that's true keyser, but i miss it being in the public eye, it could do some good right now i'm thinking. and anyway, "The Underground" isn't too accessible up here. nothin here but rocks, trees, me, and empty bags.

Yeah, punk has had a steady decline of truely good artists, but that comes to any genre that becomes "popular." God forbid jam bands get mtv style popular! There are still sources for punk but one can't look to far into the accepted bands of the 90's.

Whatever there's tons of new, good punk bands out there, plus a bunch of classic acts still kickin, I'm not super down with the crazy angry punk like your Minor Threat and Black- and Anti-Flags but whatever.

Bouncing Souls
NoFX
Millencolin
Dropkick Murphys
Snuff

Those are my favs right now, I also like alotta ska:

Catch22
Less Than Jake
The Hippos
The Planet Smashers

I mean, you obviously got your annoying pop-punk like Blink 182 from Enema on, Sum 41 etc. But there's still good stuff out there.

Soze that's such a stupid attitude, I don't care if AFI starts touring with N'Sync and Britney Spears as long as their music stays awesome then they're awesome, I'll never understand this hatred for punk bands that start making money, or the attitude that old is always better, I like old ska like The Specials, English Beat and so on, but the newer bands like Spring Heeled Jack, LTJ and Mustard Plug blow them outta the water.

"I don't care if AFI starts touring with N'Sync and Britney Spears as long as their music stays awesome then they're awesome"

if you think they're awesome then thats good..but i never said anything about wether i like them or not..i just commented that signing to a major label and modeling clothes for a store such as "hot topic" which manufactures being "punk" isnt too punk..

"I'll never understand this hatred for punk bands that start making money"

because punk isnt about making money..its about being D.I.Y.anti-establishment.and anti-capitalism..just because a band can produce a sound similiar to punk doesnt make it punk..
a punk band that makes millions of dollars isnt really a punk band..its a contradiction..

"or the attitude that old is always better"

i never said old was better..there are a lot of good new punk bands out there..and theres good bands coming out all the time..

"peace/anarchy/equality"

below are the Miriam-Webster Dictionary definitions for those 3 words.

PEACE
1 : a state of tranquillity or quiet: as a: freedom from civil disturbance
b: A STATE OF SECURITY OR ORDER WITHIN A COMMUNITY PROVIDED FOR BY LAW OR CUSTOM <a breach of the peace>
2 a : A STATE OR PERIOD OF MUTUAL CONCORD BETWEEN GOVERNMENTS
b : a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity

ANARCHY
1 a : ABSENCE OF GOVERNMENT
b : A STATE OF LAWLESSNESS OR POLITICAL DISORDER DUE TO THE ABSENCE OF GOVERNMENTAL AUTHORITY
c : a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government
2 a : ABSENCE OR DENIAL OF ANY AUTHORITY OR ESTABLISHED ORDER
b : absence of order : DISORDER

EQUALITY
1 : the quality or state of being equal (see equal)
EQUAL
1 a (1) : of the same measure, quantity, amount, or number as another (2) : identical in mathematical value or logical denotation : EQUIVALENT b : like in quality, nature, or status c : like for each member of a group, class, or society

How does "peace/anarchy/equality" fit together? Please tell me, because i am not seeing it.

Your definition of what "punk is all about" is so sad. DIY, considering they know what it means,is what wannabe punkers like to say, along with "anarchy in the UK" and other catch phrases. Punk is about being yourself and not giving a fuck what other people say. It's about living how you want to. The only thing i can agree with about your statement is that it is anti-establishment and anti-capitalism.

Antidisestablismenta rianism.......go figure out what that means.

Soze, punk is about whatever I or anyone else who likes punk wants it to be about, you should listen to Lagwagon's Know It All, the operative line being: "The Bands are good until they make enough cash to eat food and get a pad, then they've sold out and their music's cliche, cause talents exclusive to band's without pay" It's an attack on people with your kind of attitude that punk can't be this, or isn't that. Why can't a punk band make it big and make cash? Are they supposed to play tiny shows and scrape by for their whole life? I see no reason why I band can't start making big cash and still be considered punk. I hate this more punk then you, or that's not punk enough attitude.

anarchy-a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government
equality-the quality or state of being equal
peace- a state of tranquillity or quiet: as a: freedom from civil disturbance

as long as you have a government..you have someone in power..it is usually a very little percent of people that control all the power..therefore you have different classes..lower class.middle class.high class.and as long as their is a different class system their will not be equality..one group of people have more rights than others..and so on..
if there is anarchy it doesnt neccesarly mean total chaos and complete destruction..and all this other shit people associate anarchy with..you can achieve peace through anarchy..but first you need complete equality..for all humans..animals and for the earth..with equality everyone has the same rights and power isnt a problem..if theres equality in anarchy then there will be no corruptness..and then you can achieve peace..
everyone assumes once there is no goverment..people will start running around.destroying everything.but if there is an understanding of equality then we wouldnt need to destroy anything..

wannabe punkers like to say d.i.y.? is that why they're out buying clothes from hot topic and buying "punk" cd's from tower records..maybe they like to say it but they dont follow it..and punk isnt whatever you want it to be..if someone only listen to disco and considers themselves punk doesnt make them punk..there arent rules on how to be punk..but cmon there is some structure in the scene..its hasnt a complete waste..but it seems like it is when a 13 year old kid can walk into a store and can suddenly become "punk" without really knowing anything about what it means..and being ani establishment and anti-captialism is being d.i.y...so how can you agree about that but not about DOING IT YOURSELF..?

peace//anarchy//equality
No government can ever give you freedom

i never said anything was wrong with a band supporting themselves..but when they start making millions of dollars..get plastered on mtv..and support stores such as hot topic who manufactures the "punk look"..then they are just another rock band..why do people insist on calling them punk? what makes a band who makes millions of dollars punk? and if in fact these bands are so true to the punk scene then why dont they play for the scene and the fans that made it possible for them being where they are..why dont they pack the small venues with the kids who dedicate their lives to the scene..instead they pack out stadiums and charge 25 bucks a tickets..where 3/4 of the kids calling themselves punk have never even heard of the stooges or MC5..
and i never said anything about being more punk than anyone else..or bands not being punk enough..the punk scene has survived without the help of these bands calling themseleves punk when they dont stand for shit!

its ok to be a punk band and make it big, but u cant allow ur shit to be on trl top 10 mtv bullshit. blink 182 and green day have some AWESOME older cds, but they sold out to mtv and turned therre music to pussy bullshit. blink is now sissy pop punk and will do anything mtv tells them. less than jake and rancid and nofx have made it big with no corporate influence. rock on
