the goal of alchemy is to turn lead into gold. to take a substance and combine it with another substance that makes it more than it's origenal worth. in this sense, you really need to start making bronze statues of your pharmacist or local chemist, for they have made gods own medicine, morphine, and in contrast, a shiney rock doesnt seem to compete.

They were a cool band. I'd vote Shannon Hoon to be the most drugged-up artist of all time. Sure, Keith Richards, Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia, etc. probably did more drugs total, but Shannon wasn't in the game that long before he died.

Anyone see the Blind Mellon 'Behind the Music.' I think it's one of the best 'Behind the Musics,' and I've seen a lot of them. Feel sorry for the guy's daughter. All she has are a collection of videos showing her dad with dialated pupils.
RIP Shannon Hoon.

Brad was into heroin for what, 3 years? Maybe? He died rather quickly after he started. Pretty much all Scot Weiland did was shoot heroin and smoke ciggarettes. You obviously don't know shannon hoon. Opiates, DMT, Weed, Cocaine, Ecstacy, Alcohol, Barbituates, any thing he could get his hands on, all the time. I like Sublime more than Blind Mellon. STP more, too. But Hoon takes the cake on use. And he still had time to make good music.

hehe, and above all, even after all the alcohol he consumed, all the coke and herion he snorted, he still had a amazing voice, and a talent to write outstanding lyrics, even janis joplin, and jim morrison cant say that.

I agree. Jim had a decent voice, but once he started drinking, the show went downhill. Stopped making sense and what not. I have that new live album 'Bright Midnight.' The tracks he's drunk on suck. I won't speak for janis, because I haven't listened to a lot of Big Brother and the Holding company.
You have a funny sig, Beligerant. go vicodin!

Melon's three albums are all good in different ways, but I especially like the sort of compilation/tribute album Nico because it has cool songs that, while good, aren't quite album-standard recordings or whatever. In all the live videos, Shannon looks like he's somewhere very far away from the stage, I'm surprised he could remember all the words.

Drugged up music star, in my opinions Syd Barret really fucked himself with his consumption of mass quantities of LSD. I would rather be dead than be fucked up for life in the head like Syd is.

You mean 'was.' You're going to have trouble convincing me he is still alive.

Oh yes, he is very much alive. Here is a picture taken in 2001 in Cambridge where he live in seclusion. I read that he still suffers from emotional problems to this day and sinks into a real depression when reminded of his Floyd days.

What is it about this man that fasinates me so much? Anyone else as enthralled as me about this guy, a true enigma?

Hell Yeah! I love Blind Melon... I listen to all of their albums, but Nico is my favorite as well. John Sinclair and The Pusher. Live Happy

Wow, he almost looks normal. He's got to be almost 60 by now. I don't own much Floyd from when Syd was around, so I can't really appreciate him.
