Take out the plug. Take off the cover and clean the lens with something soft like one of your mums make up brushes (make sure it's clean and dry) or use a coton bud soaked in meths or CD cleaning fluid, use a dry cotton bud afterwards.
Sometimes the lens is hidden on some models and hard to get at. Try a CD cleaning CD, a wet type.

If that fails take it to a repairman.

You can buy a CD laser Lens cleaner for like $5-10 at WalMart or $12 at RadioShack. I found mine at Big Lots for $2.50. Just buy one of them and use that, it should take care of it.

Okay, cunt. Since you have some sort of parameters for "trying too hard", why don't you explain what the fuck you mean, bitch.

How hard was it for me to type that post? Not very. Took me three minutes. How hard is it for you to try to explain every contradiction and bulllshit assertion you puke out here? Who is trying too hard? I NEVER EXPLAIN MYSELF, BITCH. You backpedal and whine and hem-and-haw after every misguided whiny-assed post you put forth, twat. So who is working hard? Who feels they have to fucking defend their pussy viewpoints every time their ignorance is exposed?

Fuck off, bitch. If you want to tangle, take a stand and quit ignoring when you get the fucking menstrual blood slapped out of you. You seem to think you have a spine and a fucking functional nervous system, but I have haven't seen any evidence of either.

"Oh, but..."

"Your ignorance makes me stronger..."

"I knew you were going to say that..."

Fucking cliche-spitting know-nothing pussy.

Why don't you diagnose my mental problems now, twat? A fucking 16 year old has a hell of a lot of expertise when it comes to reading someone's words and being convinced how fucking delusional they are. How would you like a fucking amateur diagnosis in return, fuckwit?

is it a component unit (like a vcr)?

first try a lens cleaning cd if u got one, see if it works

take the screws out and pull the cover off, (unplug it first) and look where the cd is when it's playing. there will be a little eyeball in a plastic case on a worm gear or simialar transport mech. if it's full o dust n shizz blow the loose stuff off and then use a lens cleaner or clean cotton and gently dust the lens. finish with a drop of alcohol or cd cleaner on the rag or lens tissue and gently work out any remaining aprticles gently then dry with a clean cloth. don't use paper towels or toilet paer cause they will leave fibers on the lens and that will attact dust.

with the cover off plug it in (don't touch inside)and try to play a cd. watch the carousel or disc transport mech if a cartridge type, make sure the disc engages properly on the spindle, and that it does not vibrte or slip on the spindle. you should see the laser eye when the cd is not on the spindle. DO NOT LOOK INTO IT DIRECTLY. it most likely will only be on when the CD is over it so you won't see it on, but just in case don't look at it directly while the unit is powered. sometimes just bt looking around you can find something simple like a sticking spinde transport or a broken, worn or displaced laser module. make sure the whole laser assembly floats freely on the rubber bushings and that it is not sticking anywhere.

if you know something about electronics u can unplug it and look closely at the circuit board. if you see any burnt/broken components or wires. sometimes plugs that attach moving assemblys can work loose.

Aside from that, get a new one unless you can get cheap tech work done on it.
