I went to get a cell phone the other day, and I swear I was ready to go on a 4-state killing spree by the time I was done.

First, they have all these phones to choose from, except the only ones they have in stock are the expensive ones. Second, in order to get a discount, you have to buy two accessories for $9.99 or more each; the problem is, the only accessories worth a shit are $29.99 and up, and the $9.99 stuff is just crap. Third, they offer a $70 mail in rebate, but I don't find out that it doesn't apply to me until after I've paid; new customers only.

I gotta say, I am fed the fuck up with people trying to bullshit me into buying shit I don't need or want. I don't care if it's a three time bait-and-switch like above, or Martin Sheen's voiceover trying to convince me that buying Brand X new car is going to give me deep personal fulfillment. Telemarketers, TV and Radio commercials, Car salesmen, bullshit giveaway promotions, the goddamned News! All of it drives me nuts!

And to make it worse, now every other car I see on the highway has a big vinyl sticker trying to sell me something, too, and these pieheads don't even work for the companies they're selling for!

Is our entire culture turning into a warped sales-oriented black fantasy in which nothing is what it's presented to be? Where breakfast cereal is orgasmically tasty, a new car equals spiritual harmony, everyone is trying to kill our children (watch the news sometime), etc? It just seems like, as our culture gets more complex, that it just boils down to more and more layers of bullshit drama, exaggeration, and outright lies being piled on with little real substance (tragically hidden behind the maelstrom of crap).

Argh! I'd be satisfied with one day! One lousy day called "Reality Check Day" where everything is just what it is.

And what the fuck is a rebate ?
American companies give rebates on everything from cars to toilet paper !

Why the fuck don't they just lower the price in the first place ?

Americans are stupid that's why.

They allow this shit ,and even ask if there are rebates on things not marked so.

"Like I want the purchase price inflated so you can send me a peice of that back."

What the fuck ?

Companies know that 50% of the people buying "rebated" items won't send in all that : damned receipts ,bar codes (which you probably threw away) etc.

So they jack up the price and you loose. And multiply that by a thousand or 10 thousand customers ...................w ho's makin' all that interest on the "rebates" that always are mysteriously held in limbo for 4 to 8 weeks or more.............the banks..............t he companies who rely on American stupidity to squeeze yet another nickle out of you.

A gateway drug to say the least, further more people use without even consideration, not consenting to moderation in the least, and dont even get me started on the withdrawels. the goal of alchemy is to turn lead into gold. to take a substance and combine it with another substance that makes it more than it's origenal worth. in this sense, you really need to start making bronze statues of your pharmacist or local chemist, for they have made gods own medicine, morphine, and in contrast, a shiney rock doesnt seem to compete.
