scored a 1000W dual spectrum light, and was wonderin if anyone had a clue as to what these run in electricity over a months time.

have a 24X32 foot crawel space, 4 foot high. just wonderin if the area i am goin to use will be fine wrapped in black plastic(so no light will get out and give up the spot) have intake and exhaust fans. was thinkin maybe the plastic will somehow hold moisture and alge up my babies.

and, Ive checked out a few home built systems, usin milk jugs, gutters, pails and all. just wonderin what most guys are usin. somethin that will hold up, sturdy unit. lookin to bud 10 to 15 at a time.

a 1000 watt runs me about a added 35-45$ a week in the power bill as for black plastic in that space with a 1000 watt light that's just asking for a fire u will need alot of fans(2-3) for that space it will get hot if it like the crawel space i have the sumer heat will kill your plants and u can veg and flower during day light so no one will see the light as for the hydro stuff i dont know i use dirt maybe 10-15 5 gal bukets hope i helped

You're not going to have much sucess with only 4 feet of elevation unless you plan on growing 1-2 foot plants,even the concept of laying them down and growing horizinally won't do you much good,you'll waste more light than you will use.There are several different styles of hydro systems available and I'm sure that there is a certain amount of sucess with each,but unless you have more heigth to deal with,you're not giving yourself enough of a chance to warrant using your 1000 watter.I don't want to bum you out or anything,but if your going to use that type of lighting and pay for the expense of it,you won't be very satisfied with your results,and with the plastic,the prior post is right on in the results of a fire,not the sorta up in smoke that you want to experience.A good indoor system begins with good planning,whether it is in dirt or solution,look for a place that is atleast 6 feet tall or more with a floor space of 10' x 10'.keep trying and soon you'll have a solution to your problems............

1000w should cost about $25 per month if you pay around 7 cents per Kilowatt hour. Thats on 12/12 cycle it'll be twice as much on 24hrs. You need to add 15% to the wattage of the light to acount for the ballast, so its about $28

4x4 to 6x6 is good for a 1000w. 10x10 is WAY too big. Thats only 10w per square foot. You should have around 50 for best results. You will need extra space for fans and such though. Try to get at least 6 feet of vertical space.

Yeah, gotta agree with Bud Bros on this. 10ft x 10ft is tres grande for a 1000W (unless on a mover).

The optimum floor space is moot here though because your no going to get the coverage with that kind of head space anyway.

Bear in mind that your planting sytem (be it NFT, Bubblers, Soil or whatever) is probably going to take up the best part of a foot (less but not by much), your lamp and reflector will take up 6 inches of the headspace too. This leaves you with about 2 and a half to three feet of "growing room" of which at least a foot is going to have to be spacing between plants and lamp (unless a cooled hood is utilised).

One foot plants under a kw'r..... hmmmm. Nope.

Find another growroom and grow forests of shrooms in the crawlspace.

right on, I have a spare room, so guess thats gonna have to do. crawl space under my home was what i thought would be good as it has no windows cracks or anything like that. and nothins down there. damn sure dont wanna burn down my new house.

I went ahead and closed off a 6X6 spot in a spare room(kids on his own, woohoo)knocked a hole in the outside wall for ventilation. wife went ape, but calmed her down with a fatty. had one of the push releases like on a cabinet without handles, so this spot is behind a hidden panel. kinda looks like solid walls. just need to paint it and it will be pretty sweet.

will linin the area with alum foil increase production all around the plant or is it a waste.

when my vent fan is runnin will everyone in the neighborhood smell my stuff. freakin parinoid

just have to get a tub and finish the 11 plant hydro. seeds should be here anyday. these rockwool blocks are strange stuff, they actually will hold moisture?

Wow.... you've been BUSY!!

Just paint it flat white. I prefer it even to Mylar (great (and more reflective) but easily torn, dirtys easy etc etc).

Use a carbon scrubber. There is FAQs on building your own at OG though I've never followed one so can't vouch for it's viability. Else buy one, not cheap but neither are they hugely expensive. Need to replace filters reasonably regularly depending on model.

Else grow mint and tomatoes in your grow room too.

Not a 'droer but have used rockwool for cuttings, they do hold moisture, I don't think they're the best thing to use for cuttings but on your application I wouldn't comment if they are the best way. They do hold liquid though.

Incidentally if she gets mad and you live in a cold climate, make dual vent exhausts (so you can alter where the exhaust heat goes), one leading to the bedroom (scrubbed or unscrubbed your choice) so you can heat it and she will have toasty toes even in midwinter thanks to YOUR hard work and growing

Saves wasting all that heat too. Every saving counts when you are caning a kW'er and a woman!!!

sureshot, thanks for all the killer input, will go with the flat paint as i have some to use. will check out the scrubber as theres to many homes close and most everyone knows skunks dont hang in one area for months, lol

kosh, this is my first time indoor growin, been chuckin seeds in local irrigation ditches for the past few years, then hikin for miles huntin weed at harvest time. works but outta control. just dont wanna pony up 50 an 1/8 anymore and hydro sounded fast with good big buds. so been gatherin what ive needed. dont have much yet in the hydro system really just pvc. so your recommendin usin soil with a drip? on a timer and all like a hydro but just pots with soil. Im not at home each and everyday, so i was wantin automated
