Resizing and Posting Images

Posting Images From Your PC

First step is to resize your images to keep them under the 100k size limit here at Yahooka.

The programme I use to do any resizing work is called Irfan View and is available FREEWARE at the below link:

You may first of all need to rotate the image to the right orientation...

Once the image is the correct way round you need to resize it...

You are presented with a new window telling you about the current size etc.

Be sure to make sure that the check box is ticked marked "Preserve Aspect Ratio" as this will stop the image being stretched.

Type in your new image dimensions (in pixels or centimetres or inches), i tend to resize mine to 600 wide regardless of height and file size. At 600 across they fit onscreen in most people browsers at most resolutions nicely without any scrolling and generally fall inside the 100k limit.

Hit OK and your image will be resized...

You can also batch resize multiple images as long as you have been sure to make sure they all have the correct orientation before beginning.

Again using IrfanView...

Select Batch Conversion/Rename...

A new window is opened for you to select the images you wish to resize...

Set the output directory of your files (the place on your computer where the resized images will go), be sure to make this different from the source directory.

Press the "Advanced Options Button" ("options" allows you to play with file output settings) and another new window opens allowing you to set the new size of your image, if you simply want to set all images to a standard width just enter the width making sure that the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" radio button is ticked...

Now your images are resized you can get on with posting them...

Just below the submit new post/thread button on teh normal message reply page is a button called "Manage Attachments"...

Using the usual windows dialogues selct your image...

Wait as the image uploads, this make take a minute on a 56k connection.

Once it is you will see the upload window change and add teh filename of the image...

Click on close this window and submit your post as normal...

Bingo, one image ridden post. Multiple images can be attached by uploading more than one file into the opened "Manage Attachments" window.

Simple way Using Microsoft Paint

Open any pic with Microsoft Paint,

Click on IMAGE then> STRECH/SKEW

Change stretch horizontol and vertical to 50%,(or adjust accordingly)

A 2Mb pic can become 30kb if you do this.
