I wasn't talking about how much money goes into it. It's obvious that this administration doesn't care half about the state of our own economy and people as they do about this pseudo-"war on terrorism" agenda they accidentally got themselves into.

I was just speculating as to what the US will ultimately gain from this war. You said cushy government royalties. I'm assuming you mean oil (and eventually the haliburton kickbacks to cheney you mentioned) which I think definitely did play a role in the decision to invade. I don't know why we invaded Iraq, especially so prematurely, or what their rationale was (besides the "imminent threat" argument, which was clearly a lie) but I think it did somewhat have to do with cushy royalties and oil, and they just used the weapons of mass destructions case as a decoy.. by the time the wmd case was disproven, they were too engulfed in it they couldn't admit their mistake and look stupid, so they had to turn it into a "war on terror" to make the invasion look at least somewhat credible.

But I don't think any profit will come out of it. period. It's one giant waste of money, time, and lives.

And the whole "spreading democracy" idea..anyone with half a brain knows that you can't force ideals on people. It just doesn't work. This is what will happen - we're going to set up these elections, they're going to have a new leader, and everything will look fine and dandy on the outside for a little while. A lot of people there don't evem want a democracy and oppose us being in there in the first place.

The whole situation is just causing more hatred to the US. Before we intervened, you had the people of iraq fighting each other, and everyone in the middle east fighting each other, but now they have a common enemy, the US. Pandora's box has been opened.
