This is the sort of thread that prevents me from advising anyone to come here to discuss politics. Not exactly Yahooka's finest hour.

To answer the question, you are argue several different dates for when dissent became unpatriotic, depending solely on when you believe the USA came into existence. I'll use July 4, 1776 as a convenience. Dissent began that day, since the American Revolution was still a very divided idea on that day. Dissent also became unpatriotic that day as one side would accuse the other of being "unpatriotic" if they opposed a particular idea (there was considerable political strength for ideas like no revolution, a new but close relationship with England, sharing currency with Britain, taking North America, and a litany of others movements, all of which didn't win out). Try reading a bit of Adams writings, he was fairly representative of the hawk faction and was very will to be nasty to opponents, particularly those who didn't want to go to war.

Same thing happens in all countries. Heck I remember a Canadian version of the "patriotism" (such as we have) debate in 1972 that was truly ridiculous, involved our Parliament, and was over an goddam 8 game hockey series. (A great hockey series, but it was just hockey)

I return the thread to the Alex Jones and Bill O'Reilly fans, two guys who are equally trustworthy.

not quite Jones has been dead on with many of his "predictions" and views on how things will unfold. Unlike O'Reilly who has yet to make a statement that is backed by historical facts.

Jones while bush was doing jack shit during the spring and summer of 2001 actually said that Bin laden and his American business partners were going to attack the US in the coming months.

I do agree that he posts a lot of out there stuff on his sites but he has been correct on things like terrorism and war more often than the Mainstream Media. If he wasn't so dead on and if he was just a looney conspiracy theorist he wouldn't have been arrested upon attempting to enter Canada to cover the Bilderberg meeting in Ottawa. That is something that even canadian media backed him up on, that if he is such a no one and only spewing crap how come that he was arrested even with his press id and visa in order only to be released later on with out charge.
