How do you treat the internet and your children?

I'm seriously considering a netnanny type device to limit the amount of time the net can be used.

What do you consider reasonable internet usage for your kids?

Maximumam. The highest ammount possible. The internet is a huge compilation of information database just waiting to be absorbed by eager young minds.

It was first isolated and identified in 1897 by the German Arthur Heffter and first synthesized in 1919. The effective dosage is 200 - 400 mg (3.75 mg/kg) with the effects lasting for up to twelve hours. I

Is it true good mescaline comes on strong? That you spend the first hour waiting, and half-way through the second you start screaming and cursing at the creep who burned you... and then, ZANG

There is so much more to life than book knowledge. Any idiot can google.

Without a sound base in decision making an dlife in general the internet is just as big a pile of misinformation as it is valuable. For every gem on the web there is an awful lot of rough.

To be honest they spend more time on MSN than the net. That aspect of it, the whole, "yep yep I'm doing some homework...", whilst actually being constantly distracted by "lol, wtf, stfu, chat blah".

True, maybe you could like make a list of favorites that they are allowed to go to. Like
1. Wikipedia
2. whatever
3. MSN
4. imdb.com
you know so have a list of websites, then have like 30-min maximum on each. With 4-6 30 minute sessions on a single website, they could have a maximum of 3 hours if they use all the time on each website.

Of course, you would need some kind of program for this. Like a netnanny you said. Definately impossible with current ie, thats for sure.

^ You're way more organised than I.

Loopie, look forward to teenagers, they really throw you into a spin, particularly if you inherit them with little parenting experience like myself.

You desperately spend your time trying not to be YOUR parents whilst at the same time realising that occasionally they were actually right.

The "damn, I was a right little git as a teenager wasn't I!" revelation, blew me away! *laughs*

My life got easier after moving here cause she doesn't have a phone line in her room now.

Before this luxury, I would configure IE to only go to the sites we know like Nick jr and Disney online and PBS kids... then I blocked everythig else.

I don't know what I'll do when she's older but I might try something like Net Nanny as well.

Thing with teenagers (as we see evidenced on YaHooka daily) is that dem fuckas are smart. I would think any kid above 12 could get crack info from school on Net Nanny. Still it may be a good idea to impliment as a precaution. But I doubt any mass marketed deterent will hold among today's teens...

My 14 year old is my I.T. guy, I could initiate some sort of program to limit his time but I run the risk of pissing off the guy who set up my system...

What do you consider reasonable internet usage for your kids?
That is NOT including homework time.
As a timer net nanny is useless. Cuts down on the searches kids can do too much.
unless you customise it a bunch.
If you use Win XP Just go into services and set them up a certain time
in the evening when it is allowable to go online.
You can allow them to have access to the network in between certain times if you would like.
