Question about off duty cops

A friend of mine was rollin and smokin in his car. At a stop light a dude walks up to his car and says gimme you pipe and shit. And he's like who the fuck are you. And then the dude pulls out a badge and says ----- Police Department. So the light turns green and my friend mashes out on the cop. Now they are calling his house and leaving messages saying they need to talk to so and so about an investigation on there car.

Can an off-duty cop bust you like that?

Anyone can make a citicens arrest,and that's what that act the cop did would be classified as.
All he did was report your lisence plate and tell other on duty officers you had drugs and paraphanelia on you, so they want to talk to you and search you. I don't think you have anything to worry about if you get rid of all the evidence from your car before you see them, obviously.

Depending on the laws in your state, if even an off-duty cop pulls his badge, it's not going to be quite so easy to get off. First off, the cop still has the authority of a police officer whether or not he is on duty.

the problem with cops is that they are usually thought for. They dont see things in the big picture and most dont try to put themselves in your shoes. I've seen some really good people harrassed by police. I would call it mental and verbal abuse. When a cop who doesnt know anything about you makes an opinion about you because you just happen to be smoking weed, that is a crime against humanity. I'm so tired of people trying to make me feel bad because of my decision to smoke herb. Its my life its my decision. we have the right to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Or do we?

Yes, but unfortunately we also have the right to pass laws. All the police do are enforce the laws that we as a population have decided on, regardless of how much you agree with them. Even then, I've heard of many cops that are not as harsh about marijuana. Cops are humans with feelings too.

I have all the respect in the world for firemen but cops have messed with me to much for me to repect them. If a burgler broke into my house I wouldn't even call the cops I'd just fuck em up. I've just lost respect for them seeing how racist they can be and how they play god just cuz they got a badge...and all that stuff about they dont have a right to search your car without a warrent..BS they do whatever the fuck they want and write whatever they want in the police report.

I agree with mystic, I've had so many bad run-ins with the fucking pigs.

I have had them write false reports in documents, had them slam my face onto a scalding hot hood of a car with the engine running and burn me (resulted in minor assault on an officer when I threw his ass off me), had them stop by my house for no reason and want to talk to me, hide charges and bring them back up 4 years later, all kinds of shit. They have called my friends (black) niggers on many occasions and I don't take kindly to that, fuck the POLICE FUCKING PIGS.

Out of all the cops ive came into negative contact with (approx 10) 2 of them where nice and let me talk and wasnt a smartass...the other 8 where sterotypical pigs that where probably fucked with in highschool and are now getting the world back by abusing there authority...there are a few good cops, most are just trying to do there job, but they like being smart ass basturds also because they know they can... But they do write lies in the police report, they have searched me and my belongings without a warrent or my consent or a resonable cause. They have searched my truck twice just based on previous encounters, but im smart about my shit i never bring more on me than i intend on using and if i do i ware my special pants with a secret pocket in the crotch.

Cops are just people. Some are cool some are jerks.

Cops tend to see the worst side of a lot stuations and that turns some of them hard. But not all cops are looking to kick ass and take names.

I know some cops from the neighborhood. I've asked some of them about weed ... they all laughed and said "That's the least of my problems ... I wouldn't even bother writing a citation." Ok -- this is hardly scientiic ... me asking 3 members of the NYPD what they think of marijuana use ... but they said almost exactly the same thing ... that they had all seen people get really violent and belligerent on crack or meth and they've seen junkies dead in allies with the needle still in their arms etc etc and pot should be legal and the feds are assholes.

But one things cops don't like ... disrespect. NORML's website has advice on how to deal with cops and the thing they emphasize is to be courteous while not giving any information or consent. Saying "Blow me and die, pig!" doesn't make you a man -- it makes you someone's bitch.

Cops haven't done anything but harass me and my friends for a long time. I can't beleive you ppl here telling me "Cops are just doing their jobs" fuck that. their job is to protect me. not cut me off with their squad car, come out search me, waste my time, find nothing then have the nerve to tell me to stay out of trouble.

I've got one friend who has permanent scarring on his back where one big dumb cop dragged him across the ground to his squad car where he started to knock my friend around. In fact if me and my other friend haden't stopped came back and knocked the pig off my my friend, who knows what that fucked up pig would have done. We high tailed it outta there and never saw that cop again.

So fuck off you dirty pig lovers. Cops are above the law, and therefore have total control over society. they could break down my door right now, come in here and shoot me. Then on the news it would end up as a shoot out with a crazy guy that ended with me dead.

It has happened before. and it'll happen again. I'll write some more instances later where these dirty pigs fucked over someone just because they could.

It is unfortunate, but despite outrageous efforts to weed out the bad apples, bullies still manage to make it into PDs all over the world. Also, bully culture has pervaded most departments for decades, so in spite of how kindly a rookie might be, he's gonna end up being a dick in just a few years (I'm facing this with a family friend who became an corrections officer; a once really nice guy who now has little to tell us but stories of how he shook down this guy or overturned some cell, etc. The look in his eyes is frightening, but that's how they teach you.)

As for off-duty arrests, cops can do it. Frank Serpico used to get hassled by the NYPD for doing it all the time. They didn't like him making the other cops look bad.

(For those of you who don't know, Serpico is responsible for exposing extensive police corruption in NY back in the 70s.)
