Say what you will, southerners are by far friendlier and more polite than most yankees.Geuss it's the effect of you guys frantically running in that rat race, too much tension and pressure in your life.We take a more laid back approach to things down here.

maybe southerners are more layed back because they had slaves to do everything for them? lmao
i've lived all over man, throughout the south and the north. the only thing that changes is the accent. end of story. don't confuse me for a yankee btw, born in texas, grew up throughout texas, arkansas, florida, missouri and have since travelled parts of the globe, roamed the north u.s., canada, and settled in alaska. you find open-hearted, good people everywhere. ya also find the greedy, self-righteous, power tripping, arrogant idiots as well. |

my whole problem with someone claiming to be the friendliest state is they have nothing to back it up with, its jus something they desperately want to believe. i can say north korea is the friendliest country in the world.. wouldn't you want some proof?
i guess if anyone is friendly to another person it all depends on the individual. they may act very friendly to one person, and be unfriendly to another because of race, sex, religion, etc. are people of the south the friendliest to muslims? to african americans? not too great of a track record with "coloreds" is it just caucasians they're friendly to? are they friendly to people of latin heritage? are they friendly to homosexuals? what about people who are jewish? i'm not saying the north is accepting of everyone, or any friendlier then the southern u.s. so don't think that. i'm just saying, give proof or experiences with your claims. i've lived in the south a great deal, and yes i've ran into a lot of friendly people. i've also ran into people that had their hearts set on making mine stop beating. i still say its about the same no matter where ya find yourself, the only thing that changes is the accent. i do agree that the south can be very friendly under certain circumstances. they're not always friendly and can be very ignorant with their non-tolerance and unacceptance. i'll never forget walking around fort smith, arkansas. and having some redneck and his fat woman screaming at me and my chinese-american wife "why you yellow'n up your white roots?!" sorry to keep on a rant about this topic but i had to get it out so i could give it a rest. btw, gotta agree with ya on texas. lots of changing landscape. |

I live in the south but im not whats considered a redneck or hick. You would shit yourself if you got caught with 10 pissed off country boys. A real country boy is far from lazy, they stay busy with hard labor all day and im not talking about 8 hours. Doing shit ya'll yank's would be worried about getting your finger nails dirty.

(1) Grits? That would be polenta au naturel.
(2) How we know what you want to drink? We ask. I know what the post said, but seriously, we do actually ask. Usually politely. Sometimes unusually politely. I just thought I'd try and make it a little clearer for y'all. "American by birth, Southern by the Grace of God"

ways to avoid ass whippings when you visit the north:
dont even use the word yank, or yankee, because you will sound like a jackass yokel who got stuck in the 1890s. dont talk about grits. we know you rednecks love grits. we also know that they taste like greasy slop. biscuits are allowed. gravy on biscuits, while strange, is perfectly allowable. thats only two rules, but its all you need to know. truth is we "yanks" are a lot more accepting than you guys i guess. zing

Oh, and don't make fun of the Yankees in New York or the Sox in New England, that'll get your ass whipped quick. Don't make fun of a Boston accent in Boston either. There are only so many times you can be asked to say "park the car in Harvard Yard" before you lose it.

edit: If you're from NY don't even say anything about it or speak while on a train in Boston. Especially if said train is going to/from a Sox game. |
