APBT - Pitbulls

I have seen so many threads about dogs and in almost everyone someone mentions having/wanting a Pitbull. Half of these people appear to live in apartments and I wouldn't wish an APBT that kind of life.

Pitbulls are WORKING DOGS. Bred for strength and historically (like it or not) for pit fighting other dogs and before that for Bull baiting (the breed descends from the English Bulldog) and need lots of excercise and lots of attention. They are smart dogs so they need to be kept active to stop them being bored, a bored Pitbull is a nightmare, they're such precocious fuckers that they'll soon make their own fun if bored and as their own fun is usually digging or escaping it's not what you want!

Unlike the commonly held view I've found they tend to LOVE ALL humans and though they're loyal family members they're not a patch on a Rottweiler, Doberman or Shephard if you want a guard dog for that exact reason.

The aggression in Pits is all about other dogs. Don't leave your Pitbull alone/unsupervised with another dog, don't unleash it in a dog park and make sure you socialise it with as many different dogs as you can when it is still a pup (with you present and in charge).

They have got a bad reputation because of bad owners (stereotypical hard case) who are unable/unwilling to put the time and effort into the correct training and care of these very special dogs. Don't be a cunt, pets aren't fashion accessories, get a dog that you can handle and provide for else DON'T GET A DOG.

That's a common misconception. You get some dogs that have poor temperament because of bad breeding but IN MOST CASES of human aggression with the Pitbull it is BAD OWNERS not bad dogs.

Boxers and ABPT come from similar stock and have in the past been used for similar things (fighting other dogs and bull baiting) but Boxers have in recent times been bred to maximise their loyalty, intelligence and non aggressiveness.

Boxers = (Bullenbeisser Mastiff x Local Mongrel) x English Bulldog

I'd recommend a Boxer to someone who had never owned a working/fighting dog breed before as they require a little less committment and walking than a Pittie.

my friend's Pitbull raped his Neapolitan Mastiff, and they just had puppies

gnarliest... dogs... ever...

the best part is... he's saving one for me!!!!

also, his Pit is just about THE SWEETEST dog i've ever met. he will run up to you and lick your hand, try to play tug 0f war, or just chill with his head on your lap.

they also taught him to do things like close doors and carry things in his mouth. if somebody leaves the front door open they just yell "poshie, close the door!" and he comes running.

but yeah, he does go a little crazy when people walk their dogs outside. he once jumped a 6 foot fence and ran after another dog, but did not attack it, he just sniffed it.

i can't wait until i get that puppy now... litle guy looks like a Pitbull on steroids, but SOOO nice though.

...oh yeah, my friend just got 2-month old Presa Canario, i think he wants to breed her with his Pitbull.

THAT SHIT WILL BE CRAAAAAAAAAZY

BTW, speaking of dogs that have a bad rep, Presa Canarios are so fucking sweet... scary, but incredibly friendly to people they know. just make sure you have people around a lot when they are little.

we just got a dog today...from some random hobo at a gas station...its black with a white chest and feet, its a pit but i think it has lab in it too...its awesome, real nice, real skinny tho

Yup, the dog parks of Atlanta are filled with nothing but Pit Bulls. If you got to like Piedmont Park or Candler, the large dog play areas are just a bunch of big ass pits running around. Not really many fights though. Reiterating what everyone else said, Pit Bulls that go bad are usually from bad parents.
